Trane Heat Pump Prices.

I had my old furnaces upgraded over the winter to a Trane xv95 and xv80. My old ac units are now giving me problems and I was thinking of upgrading them to a Heat Pump. I live in the Memphis area and am currently using propane (very expensive), so I thought that the hybrid system would be nice.

I just recieved a quote for the two heat pump units. It seemed pretty steep to me;

XR-15 4 and 2 ton units would be $8700 installed.

XB-13 4 and 2 ton units would be $7500 installed.

Any thoughts? Thanks

George

Oh I forgot to list my current ac units. They are Goodman CKL 49-il and CKL24-il

Seems steep, but heat pumps do cost more than central air conditioners due to added controls/devices in the unit. Also, they probably have to run a new thermostat wire out to each unit due to it being a heat pump (may want to ask). Does it include new copper refrigerant linesets for each new system, or flushing them? While the price does seem steep, I don't think it's that far off - my opinion would be that $7000-$8000 would be more reasonable. If you have doubts about the company's fair price, always a good idea to get 2-3 estimates for comparison.

Does the price include the $1500 tax credit?

No tax credit. It has already been taken.

since you have propane furnaces, your strategy of adding heat pumps is certainly a good one and should help keep your heating costs more manageable. especially since Memphis area/winter climate is normally moderate.

as you know, there are multiple Trane dealers in your area and since your furnaces are Trane, it only makes sense to add Trane HPs with correct matching evap coils.

what evap coils were quoted? provide the mdl numbers.

The goodman AC condensers and evap coils are still installed and will need to be removed?

Of course you will require a good dual fuel thermostat most likely with an outdoor sensor.

I would make a list of existing equipment that you plan to keep with mdl and mdl number.

I would make a list of existing equipment that will have to be removed.

I would make a list with mdl and mdl number of HPs to be quoted.

I would make a list of scope of work to have new HPs installed and up and running. You would want new linesets(that's preferred over flushing). You may need condensate pumps. Any access issues?

    put this in writing.

That would be my starting point and then contact other Trane dealers and ask if they would like the opportunity to quote.

    IMO
