I would hope that at $199 it is made to last a lifetime! There are several brands of tube knitters that are made for kids that cost around $30. They are actually kind of fun to use, although, of course you are limited in what you can do with them. Tubes, or pieces about 8" wide. You can sure turn out scarves quickly enough. But it will never replace my knitting needles.
