We are painting ours white and will use them in our new laundry room! I love "recycling"!

I turned my old kitchen into a laundry room and we built a new kitchen in our great room addition. Love having the countertops to fold clothes and the cupboard storage!

I sold my entire kitchen on Craig's List. Cabinets, countertops, appliances, the whole thing.
I can subtract $1500 from my reno costs AND I recycled!

Our plan was to use the old ones in DH's unfinished upstairs office space that he's trying to lease. We will most likely do that with the rest of them, but the island they took out yesterday would have to be at least partly destroyed to make it useable. It was a 4'x6' monster, all one piece, and they wouldn't have been able to get it up the stairs. (Now if we had put in an elevator... but that's another story for another day.)

DH grew up in a saving, recycling family (his parents were children of the Depression) and that's a good thing, but sometimes he gets really stuck by trying to hold onto things. It was so freeing for him to make a decision -- not a snap one but quick for him -- to let go of the island and not try to rig it to work. If we had kept it, he said, it would have been an albatross. I agreed.

Perhaps GC will be able to do something with it, but we will not even ask!

But that takes all the fun out of demo'ing! The most fun I had during this whole process was demo'ing the old kitchen cabinets. It's the most fun you can have with a sledge hammer with your clothes on!
