Congrats! So awesome!! If I was still at VA Tech, we'd have to drive up for dinner.

    That is fantastic!

You have every reason to be proud!

I don't know why I thought your son was a chef here in the Pacific Northwest. Is it my mind going, or was he or one of his friends a chef just outside of Portland?

Wonderful article about your son (and dau/law)!! We love good food & inspired chefs & would eat at his restaurant in a heart beat!! I know, maybe when I come to swim in your pool...do you live close to him? Oh, and could you have some of that bread for me when I come to hang out at your pool???

Don't we all just want to see our kids fulfilled & be good people...??!!

bumble, gs and texan : THANK YOU ! we are definitely proud as can be !

marlene.. he and DIL were in McMinnville OR some years back. Then they were in Bellingham WA. They left there and returned to AL and stayed here until they went to Blackberry Farm and now VA> a chef's life...always seeking new things and ideas and places. Thank you !

lizzie ..you will need to vacation in the Blue Ridge Mts...Shenandoah Valley to see them...10hrs from us here in AL. We all do want our children to feel fulfilled...it is a struggle but well worth it. If you send me and email I'll send you a loaf of bread :) c

    Congrats to all!!!

Just ate a late dinner so I knew I was safe in opening this up. Threads featuring great cooks are dangerous when hungry!

deedee...thank you !! haha...food pics make me hungry too !

mitch it is a great description. He wants his food to have great mouth feel as well as look good..and the smells ...oooohh. thank you !

terriks : thank you !! one loaf is gone :)

pesky...thank you ...he cooks as he goes along..I get ideas from him but mostly I can't replicate anything he does as the ingredients are hard to come by or the combinations are more work than I want to do for 2 of us...if you see something on one of his menus or his face book page I can always ask . He is very generous and nothing is a secret ! c

c - It's wonderful to hear someone take such pride in their family's accomplishments! I can just see all your mom buttons popping off. I'm only 3.5 hours away from Lexington... congratulations to you, DH, DS and DIL!

How exciting, Trailrunner! Your son is obviously a very talented young man who is passionate about his work. What is so thrilling to me about his success is that he followed his heart and is doing what he really loves. I'm sure many along the way (certainly not you!) told him to take another path. Afterall, restaurants fail all the time. But he listened to and followed his inner promptings, which always take us to the place we're meant to be.

He and his wife must be having so much fun at the Red Hen! Such a beautiful locale too. Thanks for sharing the wonderful news, Trailrunner.

You should be proud!!! Congrats to both of you.

I didn't remember he had been at Blackberry Farms - that is right here near me!

The Shen.Valley is a beautiful area - would love to go up that way again and check out your son's restaurant.

Congratulations, trail! "tremendous skill"- what a wonderful compliment. Did he become interested in cooking at a young age? (from watching his mama maybe?)

WOW! How wonderful, wonderful! So happy for you all!

You have every right to be proud, what an (well earned) honor!!! Thanks for sharing it with us, C. I clicked on the link earlier this morning, read the article on him . . . and the got "lost" for quite a while looking at recipes there. Great site! I love to cook and always enjoy these updates on your very talented chef son. I wish his restaurant was closer to us as I'd LOVE to make it a regular dining spot. Thanks!

OMG, Caroline! I was just over at Cooking looking for recipes and saw your pics of your GS. He is precious beyond words!!

Brillant news!! Such a wonderful young man -- and SO very creative! Very well done indeed! :)

Yes -- I could eat up all of that yummy bread right now! :)

I know I posted to this but don't see it !!

java : I sure hope you can get down there. Thank you ! I love the image of Mom Buttons !!

SG,,,,yes following ones own path is so hard to do at times and yet can be so rewarding. We have told all of our children to do this and at present they are all following very individualized paths that are so rewarding. We are indeed proud . Thank you for such an insightful note.

tina: he and DIL were there for exactly one year before going to The Red Hen. He loves the intimacy of the Red Hen so he is glad he moved on. I sure hope you can visit some day. Thank you !!

nancy NO !! He only made mac and cheese from a box until he left for the USMC. That is where he became interested. Although I do believe all the latent talent came from his Mom and Dad and all the meals he had with us. That is all he talks about now is what we used to fix at home and he asks me all the time for my recipes and old family recipes from his grandparents. We are so happy for them. Thank you !!

lynn: thank you !! I sure wish you were closer too. It is such fun to see our kids do well. I hope it continues and he can bring the experience of fine dining to more and more folks. c

marlene...thank you !! He is such a sweet sweet baby. He has the best chuckle. We love him to pieces. !!

tea...thank you !! Wish you were closer...you would get all the loaves you could stand. !! c
