Kenmore fridge-Anyone else having problems?

About 14 months ago I purchased A "TOP-OF-THE-LINE" Kenmore Trio fridge, which is actually made by LG. It has the three doors and my kitchen renovation included the cabinets being built around it. It looks great, but I began having serious problems just 2 months out of warranty and I am wondering if anyone else experienced this.

We noticed an intermittant smell and after cleaning it and changing the filter, we found the food on the top shelf was warm. We finally discovered the light (which is over the top shelf)was staying on when the door closed and the lighting unit was melted and burned. After numerous visits by the Sears repair tech, and changing out the fixture and switches, the problem continues with everyone scratching their heads. Anyone else experience this??? I found some similar stories on some cosumer blog but thought this would be a good forum to check as well.

My Kenmore elite 3-door has been in use less than a month -- but thank you for the information. This is something I will watch for.

I remember reading there was a recall on certain early models of these. Maybe check that out!

I found somewhere on a blog other people with issues with the Kenmore Trios, (I have one but its only 2 months old, I bought the extended warranty for it). Anyway- one lady called sears everyday about her broken trio until she got a new one. She went all the way to corporate or something- and got a new fridge. I think they may have been worn down from her calling everyday- but in anycase she got a new fridge. In my previous home, my Maytag died 1 month after the 1 year warranty was up, and my SIL has an Amana that broke in the first year. I think these days a lot of appliances are made poorly. Also- There was some sort of recall on the trios a year or two ago, you might want to check yours was not part of that.

    Thanks for the info.
I know about the recall and my model was not part of it. I did not buy the extended warranty, but my problems started before the 1 yr warranty expired. Since I didn't realize the odor was the lighting unit burning out, I just kept cleaning the fridge. I didn't realize it was the lighting unit for another 3 weeks, when it was out of warranty. I resent having problems with such an expensive appliance just out-of-warranty. So far Sears has not charged me for the repair. That would not be nice, considering I bought all 4 kitchen appliances from Sears these past 3 months!!!

I have copies of other people experiencing the same problem with this model and plan on going all the way to the Dept of Consumer Affairs if Sears does not repair it correctly or replace it-Warranty or not!!

We bought ours in September 2005 and haven't had any problems. Ours is the Trio with just water through the door. Knock on wood! I'm almost afraid to post this positive report! LOL
