Does Size Matter?

I'm not very good when it comes to interior design/decorating. Would love some help. I love this pendant light and have planned to use two of them above my island for months in the remodel. Did a little mock up last night and DH thinks it's too big. We currently don't have pendants above our island so I think he's just not used to having something hanging there.

The dimensions of the island are 62x38. The pendants are 10.5"W 14.5"H with either a 6" or 12" stem. Here's a picture of the pendant and then an environmental shot with the 6" stem. (The 12" stem puts the bottom right at 30" above the island but DH also thinks that is too low.)

Do you think these are too big for the size of my island? Thanks so much for your input.

Is the island in place already? If so, you need to step into the world of "mock-ups". Get some balloons and blow them up to the size of these pendants, get some string, blue painters tape and have at it.

Between balloons and cardboard mock ups, you can really determine the answers to these kind of things for your space.

The pic of them in action that you posted makes them look a little stubby. I'd go with the longer stems.
As for size, I think they'd be fine. I have a 9 foot island with a big venthood in the middle. On each side is a 36" cabinet with a hanging fixture over it so each area is a little wider than yours. Our fixtures are 13" wide, which is more than 1/3 of the space they are over, so yours sound like they'd be just fine at 10".

Is that 62 x 38" dimension right? The 38" seems off...looks larger than that.

I think 4 pendants looks like too much. I think I would do 2 larger pendants and I agree that the stems need to be longer.

I think the 10" wide is fine. It's the 14" high that's the problem. Add that to the fact that you only have two stem sizes available and are using them with an 8' ceiling and I don't think these are the right choice for your space.

A single wider and "airier" chandelier that is around 14" high would be fine, or a pendant that is more simple, with only a 6"-8" shade without that deorative doodad above the shade would probably work. That is the issue that is making them look off. If it could be removed, and the two stems joined together it might work. It makes them look squat.

As it is, they have the wrong proportions for an 8' ceiling regardless if you used one or two. (I really dislike them in that quad configuration shown. The styling and the proportion are both off.)

I loved those pendants for so long. I planned to try to save $ some place else and splurge on them. During one of my lighting threads, someone else who also loved these Argentos explained that she didn't use them for the reason GD stated. I checked them out for my 91" ceilings and, sadly, they didn't work for me either. ((sigh)). Still love them though. Don't mean to be a Debbie Downer!

I would agree that two larger pendants would look better w/your design and make a nicer statement.

You might do what was suggested and get some balloons in various sizes and play around with sizes and lengths. Clever idea
