finished white kitchen!

Finally 99% done! I must confess I miss my weekly search on the kitchen forum in making another huge decision! I guess I'll have to move on the the cooking forum. Thanks for all the info, pics and advice! I'm loving my new kitchen and space. Anyway, this remodel made a tiny kitchen much more enjoyable. The granite is seafoam, another decision that I lost sleep over, but I love it! Here's the before:

and after:

Wow - that looks amazing! Did you borrow space from other rooms? Please tell us the details (and your Seafoam is gorgeous btw!). I honestly cannot believe that is the same space...incredible!

WOW! What a beautiful kitchen! I love your granite, especially with the island color. I also love the backsplash and the new layout. I love everything about your kitchen. Congratulations!!

I love your kitchen! Your 'before' pic looks like my current kitchen and I am seriously thinking of going with white cabinets. Can you answer some questions for me?

Did you have to knock down any walls?

How much bigger is this kitchen than the old kitchen?

Was there an extra expense to get rid of your soffits?

Do you have a glaze or something on your cabinets? I ask because it doesn't appear to be a bright white but more of a soft white.

What does the island contain? Drawers or cabinets?

WOW! What a wonderful change. Everything blends perfectly and it's all lovely. Did you remove a wall or add on? Everyone will want details.

You have a magazine kitchen- only better!

    Congratulations- it's lovely.

Beautiful Kitchen. Love your back splash.

That is one helluva transformation! Simply gorgeous! Please provide us with the details.

Wow, thanks everyone! Here's a few more details and pics.
We knocked down 2 walls....the one between the tiny old kitchen and the dining area and another between the family room and dining area. We also moved out about 4 feet into our side yard. Not much but it made a huge difference. So it is one big room now, who uses their formal dining room anyway!!! I tried to make the dining area nice enough for entertaining but informal too! The cabinets are cream with a pewter glaze. I don't know about the soffits (whats a soffit again? :)) The island has 3 drawers and 2 huge cabinets where the big items...crockpot etc fit nicely. I'm loving the storage space...I have tons!

    oh wow.. Love it!!!

    amazing!!!

    one word- gorgeous!

I love it too. Who'd want to eat in the dining room when you can eat in a kitchen like that. Absolutely stunning.

Beth, that is without a doubt one of the most stunning transformations I've seen. The finished product is simply gorgeous!

We also removed three walls: between kitchen and dining room, between dining room and old kitchen eating area, and between old eating area and hallway. As a result our kitchen, dining room, hall and family room are now just one big open space... but we will have some informal separation because of the cabinets and island range hood.

I would love to hear more about your dining room chairs and table, they are exactly what I'm looking for.

I do have one comment that is really directed at all who remodel: the electrical circuits in the kitchen and dining room are required to be 20A (12/2 wire)... so why do most people just install a 15A receptacle such as you have? 20A receptacles are designed to carry more load and are easily identified by the extra little horizontal "leg" on the neutral slot. Also, if you are daisy-chaining these kitchen receptacles from one GFCI receptacle, it should be a 20A model otherwise it may trip unnecessarily. Not trying to be critical, just helpful.

Once again, this is a beautiful result and you should be extremely proud.

I'd like to know more about your dining table too.
    Beautiful job!

Love it - and you have some cute Christmas decor on the counters, too!

Thanks again everyone! :) For those who asked about the table, it was from a small furniture store called Legends. The table was shown with 4 chairs and a bench. I loved the bench but not the chairs, so I substituted different chairs to kinda dress it up a bit. It took me a while to find the chairs to match the bench. I've gotten many compliments on it!
Here's a couple pics of it in the furniture store:

    Hi Socabeth--
Excellent job on the kitchen. I'm just starting one. Could I ask you the maker of your double ovens? The unreliability reported by Consumer Reports last May has me totally paranoid on what to buy.

    Love the changing ceiling height.

Wow-your house is beautiful, you must be thrilled!!

Congrats-and enjoy all that cooking and entertaining in your new space!!

The double oven is by Kitchen Aid. It is a convection oven on top and I'm lovin' it! I've never used a convection oven before and I cooked 2 tri-tips in 30 minutes! We got ours at Lowes. I got a separate microwave since the combo microwave/convection ovens seemed small.

    Hi,
    So beautiful!

Can you tell me what your floors are, ? engineered etc?? I need new floors in my kitchen, and love yours.

    Thanks!
    P.

Amazing! I can only hope mine will turn out half as nice as yours! A wonderful transformation! And, as others have asked, details please!

Don't forget to send the info to Starpooh to add it to the Finished Kitchens Blog!

Priscilla, the floors are distressed engineered hardwood, the color "dutch chocolate"! They looked a lot darker installed in my house than in the showroom and show the dust etc. but with my new swifter/sweeper, no problem!

I love your kitchen! I hope that when mine is done it looks like yours. Can you possibly share info on your light fixtures?
You did a great job - congrats!

    Oldhometara,
The chandelier is from Kichler Lighting group -
"6 light incandescent chandelier" in old bronze finish. I would recommend a dimmer switch on it.
This was from the Great Indoors, where I bought the pendant lights as well. I can't find the details on the pendant lights anymore, sorry! I think there would be lots of choices to match the chandelier though!
You'll find the chandelier on Kichlers web site and they have tons of pendant lights to chose from that would match!

    Socabeth,
Thanks for the lighting info. Enjoy your beautiful kitchen!
