tile under cabinets

I'm planning to start a kitchen face-lift. The previous owner put in new ceramic tile floors and cabinets. The cabinets look great, and I plan to keep them, but the tiles have started to crack in places and need to be replaced. Tiles that have come up have no thin set on the back of them, so I think it was an install issue. The floors were laid before the cabinets were set. I plan to replace the floors with new ceramic or travertine. Has anyone tried removing the tile without uninstalling the cabinets? What kind of damage and repairs to the cabinets should I expect?
