Help with layout - floor plan included

Please help with this kitchen layout. We have the rest of the house pretty much good to go but the kitchen isnt working out.

Is that enough room for the pantry?

What would go on the back wall by the fridge?

Is there enough over head cabinets?

any help would be appreciated

You have a huge space, but have the 2 major task areas (stove and sink) back-to-back. Pretty much turns your nice big kitchen into a one-person work space. I would want to create zones that will utilize the space and counter work areas better.

Having the L-shaped seating puts people facing away from each other.

In that pantry, it looks like you could have 12" deep shelves along the the jogged-in side, and making an L, have shelves along the back. Those could be a little deeper. It'd be much like my pantry that is 4 ft across the back with 16" deep shelves, and 44" along the side, where I have 12" shelves. It's quite useful, but not large.

You have lots of room (in case I didn't mention that before! ha ha)...so will you possibly want a freezer, a bigger fridge, a wall oven with separate cooktop, and/or a larger range?

Do you like to bake? That run on the side could be a wonderful baking center, or some pretty dish or other storage.

I am curious about the bar seating. Did you have in mind that sometimes the visitor(s) would sit facing the fridge run and other times the range run. Both at once would be awkward... Or is the idea to shelter the visitors out of traffic? Very cool way to do the latter.

Interested also in your appliance preferences, and your vision of how the kitchen will be used.

Last, is that the main traffic route into the house at the bottom left?

Awesome large space but I have many of the same questions as rhome and celtic. How many in your family? Kids? Ages? Baker? Orientation of this kitchen to the rest of your home? I'm also wondering with such a large space and tons of glorious counter; if you really want your frig that far from the eating area? People would have to come right through your work area to get a refill on their drink... unless your planning a beverage frig.

More info is really needed to help you best maximize functionality in this great space.

I'm not loving the L-shaped island either... Or maybe it's just the L-shaped raised counter. A long straight island, or two different-height, different-finish islands butted together (one facing the fridge) might be better.

The fridge location would also tend to pull breakfast room traffic through your work area. It could move over to the other side of that cabinet run, or relocate to the range wall by the breakfast room. Either location would be better for keeping drink-fetchers safe from sharp knives and sharp glances ;-)

Is that an elevator shaft behind the breakfast room? If so, and you're not using it now for an elevator, it could be great extra pantry space. Or recess a fridge there...

Your refrigerator is a long way from the breakfast area - a long walk if someone wants more milk. (Also the pantry wall might impede the door swing -- a pain if you need to open the door all the way to take out a drawer to wash it.)

    What if...

You had a counter depth ref in the corner by the breakfast area (opposite side of the wall from the desk.) It looks like you have a bit over 4' of clearance from counter to island so a ref with french doors should work there (look up the specs for the model you want.)

Move the stove down a bit so there's a nice stretch of counter between it and the fridge, and move the sink up a bit so that directly across from the stove is some open counter space.

In the niche to the right of the pantry (where the refrigerator is now), you could put in a butler pantry with a counter height fridge, cabinets for glasses and a bar sink as a hosting area for parties in the great room. (Which way is the dining room if you have one?)

Are you doing a single range or a cooktop with wall ovens? I'm assuming a single range.

I'd love to see the island somehow reflect the cool angle of the wall to the right. I tried shaping it like a hockey stick with the short side angled along that angled wall, but ended up with an odd corner facing the breakfast area.

    thanks for all the help.
Here is the entire floor plan for some reference.
5 in the family - kids are 9, 6 and 3. We eat a formal dinner each night and hope that continues even when the crazy teen-years happen. I love to cook, bake not so much. Kids and husband love to help as well so space is needed in the kitchen for them.
I was thinking of putting the garbage cans in the island.

Whoa. Now I am totally confused. Looks like everything is different...

    Is the orientation the same?
    Are the stairs relocated??
The angled breakfast area now is a bay?

    I can't get oriented...

Sorry for the confusion, that is an old floor plan. I will update after the meeting with the builder.
    thanks
    again
