ipad or iphone?

My kids want to get me one or the other for Christmas. Do you have either? I realize the iphone has one special feature(duh!)the ipad doesn't, but what more can it offer? It's a larger screen, which makes it easier for *me* to see, so that in itself is a plus.

I can get on line and read the whys/wherefores, but I need feedback from someone other than a teenager or a techie. I'm just not getting the whole 'i' thing. ;o)

The Ipad is amazing and so portable. I take mine with me just about everywhere. I read books, play games, check facebook, read emails, visit museums, go on trips, watch virtual tours of homes and all the while sitting waiting for an appt. or to pick someone up. What's not to love.

I have had my iPhone for several years, and received an iPad today for my birthday! I love my iPhone, but this iPad is going to be awesome for reading books, etc. It certainly helps that I know how to operate the iPhone already in navigating the iPad. You can't go wrong with either one IMO.

Just a thought regarding the iPad. My sister has one, and I have a Nook Tablet. I love my iPhone, but I found the size of the iPad to be really awkward. My Nook tablet is smaller and more portable. Was planning on an iPad for DH for Christmas, but he doesn't want it.
I suppose it depends on what you want to use your iPad for. I mostly use my nook for reading books and magazines. But it came in handy recently on a flight to Aruba where I was able to put a few TV shows on it for DS. My daughters love reading it too. The only reason I like my nook better is for the size.
I would say get the iPhone, it is awesome!

I love my ipad. I'll be honest, though; I'm not much of a phone person. I don't really care to talk on the phone and only have a cell in case of emergencies. I've thought about also getting an iphone, but the ipad takes the place of anything else other than phone calls I'd use it for.

I also take it with me everywhere.

I have an iphone and recently got an ipad through work. Love my iphone. I really like the ipad also, but am not using it as much as I thought I would - not sure why. Like Polly, I also have a Nook with wifi. I'll be honest, I use it more as a tablet than an e-reader, but it is a bit smaller and therefore for me, more portable. You can get aps for it also. So for me, I'd probably go with an iphone and use my nook.

You can use FaceTime with iPads. IPads are great for people with poor vision (and chubby fingers).

You can use FaceTime with the newest Iphones too.

    I love my iPad.

remember that the iPhone will come with a monthly contract and the iPad will work anywhere you have Wifi access.

I have an iPhone that I am in love with. It's next to the newest version. Think it's a 3G 4. I seriously want an iPad but since there is no wifi available where I live, I'll have to buy the more expensive model and pay for service to fully utilize it.

I don't have a nook or any other device like that. Just my old fashioned desktop Apple computer and an iPhone.

Texask, I enlarged the font size on my iPhone. It makes me laugh when younger people say, "Wow. I didn't even know you could do that!" I feel certain there are things they know about my phone that I don't. Funny how we learn what we need to learn. I'm pretty fast at texting now. Its the way to stay in communication with all the younger people in my life. (It's impossible to be the Matriarch if I don't know what is happening with everyone. LOL!)

Golddust, I know I would be in awe of your finger skills. I have to use my iphone sideways and expand the text. So hard to see and not always skilled enough to use that tiny screen with my human sized fingers. My apps get moved all around at times magically due to my chubby fingers. My phone even magically dials people. To think I have been using these iPhones since their introduction in 2007 and still really haven't adapted to it's micro size. So funny how young people (even older people) with great vision just use this thing like a computer. I am in total awe at their finger skills. And the most skilled use nothing but thumbs...

I have a nook(wifi),iPad, iPhone. Since my vision isn't the greatest I love the iPad the best. And with FaceTime it's like a talking to a 2D person.

I just watched a Yahoo tech news item that said if you don't need the Ipad ASAP, wait for the newer one that is due in the spring or summer. Can your kids give you an IOU for that or are they looking for something to play with on Xmas, under the guise of helping you set it up?
Is Ipad 3 worth waiting for?

I think Jack just took my iPad off my want list with the cost of his probable surgery. Maybe I should thank him for making we wait for the iPad 3. Yeah, right.

I have an iPad and really like it. I bought the 3G version and pay $20 a month for the smallest data plan. I don't stream a lot of video or play games so that's enough for me. If wi-fi is available I use that but there are many times I'm in areas with no open wi-fi networks.

I went so far as too search for a handbag that has a center pocket just the right size for the iPad. Found one. Now it is easy to carry my iPad everywhere.

DH has an iPhone and a MacBook. He is thinking of getting an iPad too.

I often don't carry my purse but I always have my iphone. I keep it in my bra and the ipad wouldn't look quite right in there. Just sayin.

I can do everything I want on the iphone, DH has a new Kindle Fire and is happy with it, especially the price.

Lol natesgram, ipad in the bra, hey gram, what's that big square thing inside your shirt? lol

LOL! Natesgram, I just tried putting mine in my bra. I could not pull that one off.

It's been decided~~i'm on a waiting list, and will be getting the 'new-improved version' of the ipad. I know it will be possibly February, but i'm in no hurry. ;o)
