grumpy - I purchased an inexpensive platform bed from the O site because I wanted a bed that was low-to-the-ground and didn't take up too much visual space. We love it and find it every bit as comfortable as our previous traditional poster bed.

My only complaint is that I have a comforter that covers the footboard part and I bang myself on the corners every once in awhile.

I am looking to get one also. We are downsizing and the master bedroom is smaller than the one I have now. Right now I have a poster bed and was wondering about a platform bed but seems gold girl answered my doubt!

A couple months ago I bought a MALM bedframe from IKEA (yes IKEA... first house.. major furniture money went into couch and other living room furniture for now).
It doesn't come out and say MALM is a platform but it doesnt require a box spring. I use the slats and my mattress.

I really LOVE the look of platform beds! And I'm not having any comfort problems! Can't really say I notice a support difference.

And my dog loves the new bed! He's now able to jump on the bed with ease (not a feature I was looking for but on well)

So after all this gibberish i'm just trying to say "give a platform bed a try. I think you'll like it" :0)

I bought a platform bed with drawers in the bottom of it from Pottery Barn Kids. It is fantastic! I absolutely love it and it is so comfortable! They also sell a mattress cover that makes it look more like a daybed/couch.
