What part of country/climate are you?

For that price they should give you a higher eff. A/C or even a heatpump. $7,000 should be able to buy alot.

You might be oversized with 110K btu. Is your house really big or badly insulated?

The house is 12 years old well insulated and 2900 sgf in the Chicago area

what size HVAC are you replacing?

    I don't like the quote.

two changes to improve and several questions.

1.move up to at least a two stg var speed 95% eff 100K furnace maybe smaller if load calc is performed.

2.move up to at least Comfort series AC condenser possibly a higher SEER.

3.post mdl of evap coil quoted.

4.what are you doing about an air filter cabinet?

    post back.

I didn't realize you were quoted a non-95% efficiency furnace. Thats crazy.

You definitely want a 2-stage 95% efficiency furnace. I would go with the highest efficiency single-stage a/c matched with it.

    Don't oversize.

    You should demand those things.

$7,000 isn't cheap. For that money you could probably upgrade your a/c to a heatpump and have a nice dual fuel system for that price.

just to be clear, this furnace is Carrier's Comfort 95. I did not say it was not 95% eff.

The 58HDX100 is a 95% eff sgl stg furnace, not two stg or with a var speed blower.

I called the salesman and he told me for an additional $1400 I can have the 58UVB100 Performance series 2 stage system. But that makes the price very high $8395.
Any advice for an alternative less expensive? please help

I had a furnace company come and do a tune up for $60. The guy did a good job and he mentioned that he installs furnuces named Sure Comfort made by Rheem company. He said he can have onne 95% effecient one installed for $2550.
Is this sure comfort a good product?

    Thanks

never heard of sure comfort. Rheem makes good stuff though.
You can find estimates higher and lower for a 95% installed. My friend recently got a 2-stage goodman 95% installed for the amazing price of $1200!

I checked the work after done. It was installed nicely. It works well. I wouldn't mind a goodman 95% furnace. I'm not a fan of their A/C's though.

Here is the Sure Comfort site.

    http://www.surecomfortsupply.com/90gas_furnaces.aspx

The Furnace guy said he can install a Sure Comfort furnace 95% 2 stage variable speed for $2850
Please some advice on this. There is nothing on their web site that connects them to the Rheem company. How can I find out this information?
    Thanks

I went to this website. The a/c's and heatpumps definetly look like rheems so most likely the furnace is too.

I called the Rheem customer service 1-479-648-4900 and asked if they make the Sure Comfort brand and they said Yes. Now the question is the price of this of brand product of $2885 installed 2 stage variable speed 95% 105 btu furnace. Is this a good price for the Chicago area?

The price is very reasonable (must be a small shop). Check what kind of warranty you are getting with this system. Important that you chose a company whose workmanship you trust and have experienced to be good. What are you doing about a/c?

Nothing about the A/C at this time, should I do anything? The final offer I have from this independent heating and a/c man is $2995 for the Rheem RGRM10EZAJS (105 btu, 95% 2 stage var speed) and the price will be $2650 for the Sure Comfort equivalent furnace. I have to decide if I want to pay $350 more for the Rheem name.

That is a good price for Columbus, Ohio. For the same furnace, I have quotes from 2,725 to 3,680. I am having more contractors come out tomorrow, and then I am going to decide from 8 quotes. Try angies list. It is worth paying for, because most reviewers include the price paid and what was done.

I wouldn't pay extra for the rheem name.

I know I"m about to get some flack for what I"m about to say - but find some contractors on craigslist.

There is legitimate honest contractors on their that will COMPETE for your business. These are guys that got laid off from larger contractor companies and are experienced and started their own independent companies. You need to do some homework with these contractors. Ask them if they are licensed, insured, and can provide some references of satisfied customers.

I must say, this is very late in the game to be trying to take advantage of the rebate AND get a good competitive price. You might be better off waiting till after the new year and not receiving tax-credit. The saved money might very well make up for it.

I don't have the income to pay any federal tax so I can't benefit from the tax rebate. Yes, I think the prices will go down after the next month. Since my furnace is working fine I am going to wait few weeks or few months and see how much I can save if any.
Thanks for the advice and help.
