Any Whirlpool Appliances Good?

Hello,

We are building our house and I was just looking through the appliances that come standard. They are all manufactured from Whirlpool. In the past I haven't really looked at Whirlpool appliances for my kitchen. I know I will have options when I get to the design center, but I am thinking that the builder may have a special pricing with Whirlpool and, if i want to upgrade (which I will want to do), they will encourage me to chose along the Whirlpool lines. I may be wrong, but I want to be prepared for when I go to the design center.

Can anyone provide me with their opinions of Whirlpool, and what appliances they feel would be good, if any?

As background, I am looking for:

- French door refrigerator with ice and water

- Gas Cooktop

- Gas convection oven

- Dishwasher

- Microwave

Is there anything from line that you would recommend from Whirlpool, or should I be looking for another manufacturer? I like LG (have had good luck with them before and like their style), others...

Thanks for your help,

Tim

My house originally came with Whirlpool appliances 28 years ago and the fridge (in the basement now) and the washer/dryer are still going strong. The DW was also still working 7 years ago when I remodeled the kitchen - so I have quite high regard for Whirlpool although I do realize they don't make them like they used to. When I remodeled 7 years ago I did get a KA fridge, DW, and compactor and they've been doing fine. KA, by the way, is owned by Whirlpool and is considered their high end line. If you can upgrade to KA I would recommend looking at that. Based on threads on this forum, the only KA appliances I would stay away from are the ranges and ovens - there have been mixed reviews of them - although I haven't seen any reviews on Whirlpool.

My last dish washer was a whirlpool. Cheapest one I could find. Boy do I miss that thing. It did the greatest job ever washing AND drying dishes.

My mother had a fancy shmancy dishwasher that she cursed all the time. It had every single "bell and whistle" that was imaginable and she paid for those. By the time we moved in with her a year ago, we all HATED that dishwasher. So, we purchased a Whirlpool Gold GU2275XTV DW for her last March and had it installed. Cost of DW: $600 includes delivery and install and haul away of evil old DW. We love it!

It has nothing inside that will fall over, break or prevent loading of large pots--it is so simple and large that EVERYTHING fits in it. The top rack is adjustable but has no special compartments--it just fits tons of cups, coffee cups, wine glasses, etc.

And the darn thing works great at washing dishes!! There are some that love all the little special things, but after my experience with my mom's DW, I am a huge convert to the "simple is better". For our new kitchen (ready in four months!!), we purchased exactly the same DW. Walked right by the F&P drawer DWs, the Bosch DW and all the others....knew exactly what worked.

Hi, we've had several Whirlpool appliances over the years and have always been very happy with them. Our washer and dryer are close to 20 years old. When we needed parts for them (at around 15 years) they were easy to get. I would not hesitate to purchase WP again.
    Good luck!

Earlier this year (around April), our Whirlpool fridge started having problems with the damper in the fridge section. While the tech was here, I also mentioned the freezer wasn’t making ice unless I manually defrosted the ice maker with a chopstick so the tray could dump.

    That was just the start:

    • Visit 2: Damper replaced.
    • Visit 3: Ice maker replaced.
    • Visit 4: Tech ordered a new ice/water dispenser.
    • Visit 5: Dispenser installed.
    • Visit 6: Tech realized Whirlpool didn’t include the funnel piece needed to guide ice into the glass. Still no ice.
    • Visit 7: Another ice maker + dispenser with funnel installed. Still no ice.
    • Visit 8: Tech ordered a new freezer door. Wrong color shipped.
    • Visit 9: Correct door finally installed after an 8-week wait. Ice maker worked for about a month, then stopped again.

At this point, I’ve had at least 9–10 service visits for the same issue, countless parts replaced, and still no reliable ice. The tech himself is as frustrated as I am.

We bought this through Costco, and while I don’t blame them, Whirlpool’s support has been almost impossible to reach. I honestly don’t see how replacing endless parts + paying techs to come out costs Whirlpool less than simply replacing the fridge or issuing a refund.

This has been an exhausting and ridiculous experience. Whirlpool needs to step up and take responsibility.
