Decoration Evolution

For those of you who have moved a lot (like me) or who have redecorated often I have some questions:

As you move from place to place, have you used your decor and art differently from place to place?

Have you discovered that the new arrangement in a new place makes you think, why didn't I do this in the last place?

Any pictures of evolution of a room or furniture from one place to another?

That touch of blue is really nice in both your decors, love it !!

I have moved quite a few times and indeed use all my art in the different spaces, they take on a new life when viewed in another setting, I enjoy that.

I have always found moving to be like Christmas when opening all the boxes. And thoroughly enjoy using items in different ways or locations. It can be a fun experience and nothing needs to stay in place if it doesn't work.

Of course! It's so much fun after the important-stuff-to survive has been unpacked and put away to go from room to room and plan where are the pretties will go. Every house has little areas that are different from the last house. Things sometimes take on a different personality when used in a different setting.

Mirrors can be often be used in different rooms. I have several that have been used in bedrooms, bathrooms, LR and hall.

I move things about in every house as long as I live there.

I love your blue mirror (and blue accents throughout) and am glad you started this thread EG3d, as I have a mirror that really needs to be a color. I had thought of giving it away but I think painting it will give it a new lease on life. Now to decide on a color! :D

I could kick myself for not taking pictures of each place I've lived because I always use the same items in different arrangements, even in different rooms, and I wish that I had a record of those different arrangements.

Thank you! I did paint this mirror a blue that I created to match my blue leather chair that I had purchased from Ethan Allen. The leather color was chosen to match the blue dot in my sofa fabric when I recovered my camelback sofa. I had originally ordered a blue fabric chair but the fabric had been discontinued. I later found out that I was the only customer in that area to have ever used the dyed to match leather program at Ethan Allen.

My other sofa is a camel color leather shown above.

Hope you don't mind if I ask, but what is the color of your wallpaint in the room with the bee-yoo-ti-ful blue leather chair? It is exactly what I'm looking for!

I don't know if we qualify as having moved 'a lot' but the longest we've lived in one house was six years, so maybe we do.

In this house, I have a mirror that was always in a hallway or bedroom before and another that was always in the dining room both in the living room. A side table that used to be in the dining room is also in the living room.

None of these have given me "Aha! why didn't I do that before?" moments, because they were mostly concessions to available space (our dining room here isn't as large as our last two, so no room for buffets and side tables, etc.).

At the same time, I think they are proof that if you buy things that you love, you'll almost always be able to find a good spot for them.

The first picture with the blue leather chair I painted with Benjamin Moore's Cocoa Sand. I used a primer first because I was covering a hideous green sponged on look. Thanks!!

Even without moving houses I often move my artwork around from room to room. Last year I moved all the carpets around. I use a lot of the same colors in all my rooms so my stuff can go anywhere. I love to change things up.
