What colors should I paint my house? I plan to unify the house by painting the brick and siding one color.
Comments (84)I'm a little late adding my two cents, but it's probably not very helpful anyway. In my old neighborhood there was a house that looked just like yours and was (no offense) kind of an eyesore compared to the rest of the neighborhood (think golf course neighborhood where some homes are 1M+, not that mine was, lol). Anyway, the people ripped the porch off and put in a porch that spanned the entire front of the house with nice big columns and the new porch had a hip roof. They kept the brick put painted the rest and did some landscape as part of the job. I wish I had a picture to show you, because honestly, when they were done it looked better than some of the significantly more expensive houses in the neighborhood. Probably a different budget than just giving the house a paint job, though :(...See MoreWhat to do about the lava rock, and what color should I paint my house?
Comments (20)Mark...it can happen. Problem is the adhesion and the way the windows work. If you have casements it won't be so bad. If they are sliders or double hung sash, the paint may have a tough time of it (all the sliding, either up and down or sideways means the potential for white to come through the paint). Thing is, vinyl casements are no that common. If you have a painter in mind for your project..or not, heck call a painter and get them out to give you a quote on the exterior, you need it anyway...get them to tell you if they can do it and stand behind their product. If it were me...I'd be replacing windows anyway. I'm no big fan of vinyl windows. I'll keep checking back, let me know how it goes!...See MoreWhat color(s) should I paint my formal sitting room?
Comments (18)I think if you shopped for different accent pillows you would find your inspiration for a new wall color. Or if you found bolder colored pillows you may end up keeping the wall color you have now. I think you just need to break up the blue tones. Maybe a terra cotta or even a golden color....See MoreHow high should we run our white subway tiles above the tub?
Comments (5)I'd go all the way to the ceiling, for reasons both practical and for appearances. Actually, I'd do the ceiling, too. Limits your potential for peeling paint, discoloration or other moisture damage. Plus, it just looks terrific. Even though you say the bathroom will be lightly used, the amount of visual payback you get from a fully tiled tub/shower area really tips the cost/benefit equation. It's one of those details that really elevates the caliber of the bathroom. The additional cost for the few extra feet is neglible, if any, since you'd still have to pay for drywall and painting (plus the dust mess) for the ceiling. Now add in the higher cost of trim tile, which you would need if you stopped the tile short. So... much more pleasing, practical, and higher end look for about the same cost? Love those easy decisions!...See Moremqmoi
