Opinions please on the dining room combo

This is my dining room. Everything, with the exception of the chairs, is what the room looks like currently. The chairs that go with the table have rush seats that are failing. I could try to replace the rush, although I don't want to start something that is beyond my skill-set, and the chairs are really not comfortable anyway.

The chairs in the picture are a set at the local consignment shop. 6 chairs for $240.00. They are in good condition with no wear that I can see. Is the pattern too much with the rug?

I don't have another rug that I can use in that area and buying a new one and the chairs would increase the cost significantly. I had slate blue chairs in this room (along with 2 of the rush seat chairs) up until last month. I gave the slate blue chairs and the table that matched the chairs to my DS & DIL when they moved to their new house.

I hope I like the slipcovers because I doubt the chairs at the consignment shop will still be there by the time the slipcovers arrive.

Don't love the chair fabric with the rug and the paisley is a bit late 1990's, but for $240 for the set, I would use them until I found something that I loved.

I don't think they're bad at all. The paisley is a smaller, tight fabric and the rug is a large, open pattern. If you find you don't love them, you could always add a slipcover in a solid color. You'd still be getting a great bargain.

I was going to also suggest a full slip cover - your transitional style works well for that. Maybe the vintage ticking?

I alread have 4 parson's chairs that are in a fabric that does not go at all with my rug. I stopped at the upholster's shop and it's $195 for just the labor for one chair plus the cost of fabric. Totally not worth it for cheap Parson chairs.

I was looking at the Ballard slipcovers but it says they are for their Parson chairs. I may order one to see it it works on the ones that I already have. I would prefer something with less pattern than the paisley but the price is right and I don't think they will last long.

After reading the reviews on the Ballard slipcovers I decided to purchase 4 for the chairs that I already have. I can use two of the rush seat chairs at either end.

This chair has almost the same measurments as the Ballard chair so hopefully it's not too long.

I'm actually liking the chairs more than the rug. Can you find another rug that will coordinate better with the chairs and use your current rug elsewhere in your home?

IMO a lighter are rug could benefit the room.

If you should decide to eliminate the white walls.

I do love the rugs you posted and the grasscloth!! This room is open to the kitchen and has a large red brick fireplace and small dry bar on the other side of the table so I would need to paper the entire area. The paint is BM Classic Gray but does look pretty white in the photos.

Slipcovers is a great solution. I’m looking forward to seeing how they fit. I like the rug.
