tablecloth with topper

I have a 42-inch round table that I want to place a tablecloth with a square topper. How close to the floor should the tablecoth hit and how big should the topper be? I'm not good with tablecloths, runners, etc. and hope someone will help me. We eat all of our meals on this table except when we have family or friends over (our dining room table seats 10 to 12 people). I would use the long tablecloth and topper when we have guests and the round table is not used for dining. My colors are silver sage (just love this color) and white. Drapes are silver sage linen, walls and trim are white.

Thank you, peppygirl

Are you plannning on buying, making, or having it custom made? If you are buying one already made, your size options will definitely be more limited.

I don't think there are hard and fast rules about how big the topper must be. Look at the link below(Ballards). If you scroll down to the bottom of that page you will see another topper that is longer.

Take a flat sheet and fold/pin it to see what size is visible pleasing to you. If it were me, for a 42" table, I think a 60" square might work nicely.

Come back and share your results!

Dawn,
Thank you for the ideas. I'll try the sheet...I never thought of that...and see what length looks best, Peppygirl
