HELP! In Socket Auto/Off In Socket Timer??

I have a device in my garage celing bulb socket that looks like a disk about the size of a quarter that goes in the socket then you screw the bulb in over it. What it does is turb the bulb off at a given time by itself, mine is the 30 miniute model in case you forget to turn it off. It flashes just before its about to turn off to let you know its about to go off. I purchased this thing about 15 years ago at a home center store and its great and still works fine. I would like to buy more. Has anyone seen such a device lately and where?

My local hardware store carries (or at least did so not long ago) these. I'll try and note a brand next time I'm in there.

I was at the hardware store this morning and realized I'd never gotten back to you. The product you're thinking of is called the Bulb Boss, and was manufactured by Beacon Technology / ABCO (Angelo Brothers Company) of Philadelphia. Unfortunately it seems the company is out of business. My local hardware store has several on the shelf; email me if you're desperate and maybe I can ship you one/some.

I believe they had 3 different models... I wasn't paying close attention because, at the time, I thought you'd be able to order them elsewhere. Anyhow, they aren't all delay timers. I know they have one model that is a 30-minute model like the one you already have. Another model acts as a dimmer, and I didn't note what the third one does.

Google will help you find the phone number for Watson Hardware in Oberlin, Ohio, so you can pursue it yourself if you like. There's a good chance that the guy who answers the phone won't immediately know what you're asking for, because the store was just sold and the new owner is still getting his bearings. Tell him these are hanging on the wall by the light bulbs, around eye level, directly across the aisle from the cash register. I don't think they ordinarily do mail-order, but they're half a block from the post office so it might be no trouble to drop something into a priority mail box and ship it.

Here is a link that might be useful: Watson Hardware

Nothing like being 10 years late to the party but I still have some of the timer modules that you described in 2008. Let me know if you still need one! Haha.

I’m interested in the dimmer model if you still have. The ones I have dim on 3 different levels just by turning the switch on/off rapidly

Hi everyone! I was part of Beacon Light Products, the company that invented and manufactured these products. The company has been gone for many years now. This product, Bulb Boss, was an amazing feat of engineering. It was sold under our own name and packaging as well as with our marketing partner Angelo Brothers (Abco) as shown in the photo on this thread. The electronics inside the little brass cup module were absolutely cutting edge and took electronic surface mounted chips to new levels of performance. I continue to hear stories of people who have these devices still in use today, some 20 years later. I actually think that I still have a couple somewhere in a dusty box of memories of things that should have changed the world but didn't, We took to market 5 products: a 4 level dimmer, 10 and 30 minute timers, a Nightlight, and an Emergency Flasher. The technology was also built directly into incandescent bulbs and sold by us as well as ABCO and Philips called "SmartBulbs". (Smart before everything else used the term). I see today, that Philips has a multi level LED bulb out... perhaps some of that original Beacon Technology lives on! Brandie, I still have a few of the 30 minute modules. I would be happy to send you a couple. Contact me on Messinger

I bought a 10-minutes Bulb Boss. Used it for nearly 20 year, retired it for another 10 year. Now, 2021, I dug it out, plan to re-use it, and need a few more. Unfortunately, the nearest one is on eBay for $8 each. Google it and found some info about the son founder of ABCO, but not about this Bubd Boss itself.

With there are some Bulb Boss around. Thanks to Joe Prin describing the history of this WONDERFUL product which surely is hi-tech back then. I am in Silicon Valley, knowing what he said about surface mount and I always wonder what is inside - May be I can get more details from USPTO

I've been looking for these to put in some common lights that my landlord has on my electric bill and my neighbors frequently leave on. I don't know if it would be possible to build them myself. Why did such a great product go off the shelves?? If anyone can help me find three I would be grateful!

I've been looking for this too, ebay has the night light and dimmer but I'm looking for the 10 or 30 min auto - off and these are nowhere to be found. I agree, why such a great product wasn't more recognized is a mystery. Used it for when my kids would "forget" to shut off the lights, had it for may years and it still worked great. Long story short, I had a house fire and the one I had was destroyed, true story. If there's anyone out there with 1 or more that's willing to sell, I'd be grateful. thanks
