I need some lighting design input for our 12 foot kitchen ceiling. Our HVAC contractor accidentally stepped through the attic floor/kitchen ceiling, taking out the existing basic flourescent light box.

I'd like to update the fixture and make it more attractive. I'm not sure what would look best with our high ceilings. The kitchen is large and has under cabinet lights and lights over the breakfast bar. But the ceiling light is the main light.

Would a hanging light look OK? Or should I stick with a boring flush mount fixture?
