Help with rug, please:)

So, most of you have seen this room before - sorry!!

I just received this chair - it is a very fine chair - wool crewel work. Not exactely what I would have picked but it is beautiful and I am proud to have it.

Can I make this chair work in here with a rug??

If it stays in here, I would replace the side table with a silk skirted round table (to break up all the wood)

I moved my 8x10 rug to the DR, so I think I can do a 5x8 or 6x9 in this space (less money!!)

Do you all have any ideas for a rug that would pull in all the colors??

Here is chair...

And here is the opposite side of room with drapes...

Thank you all so much!

Please tell me if you think it is ugly or doesn't work in here. It won't hurt my feelings. I am unable to "edit" my own stuff. I think just b/c someone gave it to me I should use it and end up very cluttered!!

Smiles:)

I saw a really pretty one when I was searching for rugs that had blues and browns. The blue wasn't really prominent so it didn't overtake the whole rug. It was a really subtle pattern too. I'll have to see if I can find it again. What kind of rug are you looking at? Wool?

Your sitting room has always read very serene in its palette of neutral earth tones. Are you sure you want to jazz it up with another color, in pattern also? That's what I would consider.

I'd definitely keep the chair though :)

Neither of these are it...I'm still looking but here's a few blue/brown ones. I think you want the blue to be more of a secondary color and I think these might be too much blue. I like the chair by the way.

This one kind of reminded me of your pillows. Darn, I can't find the one I was thinking of. I didn't know it had blue in it until I zoomed in.

Gorgeous chair. I have no advice about carpets, but I do think it would help to sprinkle some of that blue around the room - I see you have a touch of it on the pillows on the couch but nothing near the window. Maybe you could add pillows or a throw with that blue and something decorative to the table? Doesn't have to be a lot, just a few touches of blue elsewhere to tie it in.

Gorgeous rugs, Lindy :) where are you finding them?

JT, not much help with the rugs but I love that chair? Another family heirloom?

Squirrel, just Rugs Direct and Rugs USA. ;c)

Lindy, thank you so very very much. How helpful you are to search for those. I like the Surya Timeless, but am unsure if I want to pull that much blue in there.

As much as I love the chair it does seem to disrupt the calm that I have tried to create in there with my "left-overs."

My FIL has a worn cognac leather chair in same style...maybe he would switch with me and I could use it in my den. I'll post a pic of that chair in the den soon to get opinions.

    Thanks so much :)

I'm going to offer a different look than lindy ;-)

I think you need more color on the floor to ground the drapes and painting.

You have to see this one close up to appreciate the colors

I would love to see something that stays lighter, to keep the soft feel of the room, and also doesn't have too much blue in it. I found one from rugs direct, but it seems like the links never work for me. I will try to put it here, but in case it doesn't work, the brand is Nourison, the collection is Nourmak, the style is S174, in beige (not the gold).

I think you could add a small pillow on each of the chairs by the window that would have touches of blue in them, to keep the new chair from being the only blue in the room (besides the bit in the couch pillows).

I think Tryin's might be one of Susans02's rugs. There are closeups in her drumroll thread.

Trying the link this way .... from the preview screen rather than the query.

I like the last one Lindy posted. Just a touch of blue yet it still works so well with your drapes.

Here's the link to Susan's thread. English Manor Brighton is the one the blue sofa sits on.

    Thanks, Squirrel!

I do like your new chair, but what struck me first was that the background is much whiter than the beige/cream of your sofa and other chairs. May be just the flash though. That was my first reaction.

Trying - I really like that rug. In fact saw it the other day at Macy's. I have an English Manor rug in my den. I am very happy with Karastan rugs.

Les, I have been eyeing a simliar rug from Pierre deux (not seriously) but I like that one also.

I guess I still have reservations about that chair in there. Now, that I have got some ideas for directions for rugs....I'll bring some home and see if it helps pull it all together. Right now, it is very seperate - this chair was not in my plan. I have an old, old frenchie chair that I was going to have reupholstered. One leg is missing so it needs some repair but I was going to do it in some soft of fab silk.

    Susans rooms are gorgeous.

    Thank you all!!

Johnatemp, see if you can get your hands on a copy of January issue of House Beautiful. There are several rooms pictured that have chairs similar to yours in fabric that is quite close as well.
