Overstock.com sheet problem

I am wondering if anyone else has purchased sheets from Overstock.com. I am used to sleeping on quality cotton sheets that are soft and comfortable. I also do not iron them, just remove them promptly from the dryer (dry on low).

Anyway, I ordered a set of sheets from overstock.com that were billed as 500 thread count. They looked pretty, and the edging on the pillowcases and top sheet give them an elegant look (online). They arrived quickly, but the cotton felt stiff. One of the reviewers on overstock suggested pre-washing them prior to use, so soften them up. So I did. Three times. Put them in the dryer on low/delicate and promptly removed them. They were a wrinkled mess. So I gave them another rinse (using fabric softener each time), and once again, they came out incredibly wrinkled. The area on the pillowcases and the top sheet where the top-stitching is was particularly wrinkled. These are sheets that would have to be ironed and starched to remove the wrinkles. I also discovered a Kohl's Sonoma brand label inside the sheets. Hardly a luxury brand, and the only other item I have purchased that was a Sonoma brand was also not good quality.

I have decided to return them because I know they will never become soft and the quality is not good. Hopefully, I will get a full refund, even though I did wash (but not use) them.

I have heard people saying they have purchased high quality sheets on overstock. Does anyone here have experience with a particular brand on overstock? My other sheets are Charisma and Court of Versailles. I think I purchased those at Tuesday Morning, but I am on a tight budget right now and cannot afford to spend what I paid for those sheets in the past.

Attached is a link to the sheets I purchased. I'd appreciate any suggestions or experiences you have with overstock.

I've bought a lot of sheets on overstock and love them -- but I can see why you wouldn't be happy with your experience. I have bought 500 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets there. They are thick and heavy, and a little crisp which is very pleasant in summer. A lot of people commented on overstock that the didn't like them because they were stiff, maybe not realizing that high thread count doesn't always mean super-soft drape --just very good, durable quality. I would probably love the sheets you got--but I would never describe them or the ones I have as as "sateen". Sateen should be soft, with a somewhat silky finish, and wrinkles should pretty much drop out. Sounds like overstock did a bad job of labelling and I think you are entitled to return your sheets.

Thanks for your reply. By chance, would you remember what the brand name was that you purchased? I really wanted yellow sheets to go with my bedroom, but had to settle for white (no problem). However, I did want some type of decorative border on the hem and pillowcase so they were not so plain. That's why I picked the above sheet set. Soft, they are not!
Anyone else with any thoughts/experiences with overstock and sheets out there?

I noticed that there were no reviews on the sheets that you ordered. That's not necessarily bad, but I usually like to order items with plenty of good reviews.

Yes, I got a high thread countsheet set from the big O and not happy with them, had choice of pima cotton or percale, I remember percale from years ago being very nice, well these are awful, like sleeping in a paper bag! they crackle loudly and they wrinkle no matter what, I must iron the pillowcases, and I gave them a terrible review!!! wondering if the pima cotton may have been the better choice, percale ain't what it used to be, not perma press for sure!!!

What? There were plenty of reviews....all good!

i also had the same problem with overstock sheets - 1000 tc, only to have the same experience of crunchy stiff sheets that are horribly uncomfortable. i would give the item a bad review to warn people off so they dont have the same experience.

Don't believe the reviews on Overstock!! Based on positive reviews I purchased a comforter set from Overstock. Within one month the seams were coming apart. Although I submitted a negative review about the comforter on their web site the review was never posted. Ever. The positive reviews are still there. This company isn't Amazon. Ask yourself - Why would Overstock post negative reviews when they are making money selling the product?

That's weird, the first time I clicked on the link and looked at the sheets I didn't see any reviews. Now I see that there are lots of positive ones. Strange!

I think lateforthesky may be onto something here about the reviews on overstock. I looked through those reviews, most were 4 star or more, before I purchased the sheets. I think there may have been one or 2 non-positive reviews, but that is to be expected out of 49 reviews, right?
Well, I posted a very negative one star review of my own on monday and it is still no up on the site. I doubt it ever will be.

if those sheets aren't working for you, overstock does have a pretty liberal return policy. i bet you could call them or email them and just get new sheets after you complain.
