Nuff said.

I've got to say, they did post a lot of good pictures, showing all the detail, like the veining in the mirrors on the armoire. I could see maybe having just one of those pieces in a room, but the whole suite. Yikes!!

f it was all dark walnut, I might actually like it. But it's just OTT as is.

I think Donald Trump and Imelda Marcos have the same set.

I recently described my bed as over the top - I would like to retract that statement.

I think that armoire "thing" could actually come to life and swallow you while you slept. I do however really like the headboard.

Damn, I'd have to get a new nighty. I don't think this is my style .... or .....

I think they should sell the pieces individually. If you just look at the head board and imagine the possibilities you could work it into that new "Brocade Look" that is becoming popular.

The amoire could be a stunning piece alone in the right room - a larger room with higher ceiling, ceramic flooring, and surrounded by plainer furniture pieces.

The dresser alone in a room with a bed with a soft padded headboard, could look sophisticated and feminine.

You have to imagine the pieces without the garish accessories and outside of the tiny apartment that it currently sits in. A French Country home could handle those end tables.

But I am sure the owners think it is "more valuable as a set". LOL. I hate matched sets no matter what but that is just a personal preference of course.

Newhomebuilder, ads like that are not uncommon. I did not see the ad so I am assuming it is one of the legit ones and not a 'cover' for something else. It can be a win/win for everybody. One person gets to go on a cruise for probably half of what it would normally cost, and the other person does not lose 100% of the money on a non-refundable ticket.

Sometimes tour groups will match up strangers who can share a room so they don't have to pay single rate. I've done this and never had a problem sharing a room with a stranger.

Paint it white, white paint cures all! LOL

I LOVE the bed and actually like all the pieces except the night stands! I admit it!

But darn, my room won't fit a QK bed, never mind the rest of the stuff. Oh, and it's across the country, AND too expensive :-) But hey, I gotta admire someone who has the guts to commit so completely to a single style that they get the whole set AND accessorize with numerous ornate candlestands and lamps. I mean, in a world of beige and "the curtains must hang just so," we need people like this!

What is it, some Italo-French Provincial?

Oh wow. I'm at a loss for words. That gold veined mirror thing scares me. I don't want to go there on the mirror.

I thought our bedroom furniture was over the top...our headboard is rather rococo...but not quite as steroidal as that one. And my armoire is heavily carved and adorned with molding, but...well...it positively pales compared to this stuff!

Luckygal, I thought the same thing! Someone will probably buy it, paint it white and I'll be drooling over it on some blog thinking..."why didn't I think of that?!"

It reminded me of the furniture that comes to life in Disney's Beauty and the Beast!

    Kat :)

Wow is right! I'm glad I don't dream like that :-)

Oh, what a funny thread. That is a room full of "statement pieces", hee hee.

Can't you just see that being Charo's bedroom?? Ay yi yi!

I hate the red lampshades more than the suite of furniture.......

Wow indeed. My ex-DH used to call that style "Early Mafia",. because of the decorating preferences of his high-school classmates.

(most of their families were in organized crime, really)

I'm usually not this observant so I don't know how I noticed it but did you see the too small, beaded tassel thingie hanging on the Armoire? Yes, that's exactly what the piece was crying out for - a little tassel.

And I think the mirror veining is a feature to help the owner look younger - "Will you look at that? Still no wrinkles on my face, according to my heavily smoked & veined mirror-mirror-on-the-Armoire..."

Who knew that descendants of French Royalty lived in the Harrisburg area? Looks like the furniture out of a bedroom at Versailles. I don't think they should sell off their inheritance so cheaply.

Oh. My. Sweet. Monkey! I want to see the rest of their house!

I would wager a bet to say it belongs to someone who loves(loved?)detail, and finally got sick of it. Can you say overkill? LOL

ONE nightstand might be enough. ;o)

So who was it that wondered what the rest of their home looked like huh? Not exactly a tour, but a photo of the other bedroom set they are selling. Very similar in design.

Only $9000 and the lamps are $1800.

I need eye bleach for this one. It's a table with a built in lamp. The lamp looks like it is wearing earrings but those are nightlights.

Check out the flamboyant couch in the background too.

Did you notice the second bedroom and extra sofa are in a storage warehouse? Wonder what the real story is behind it all? I just can't imagine a house full of overly ornate furnishing. I would go stark raving mad in I don't mean to sound snarky, so I apologize in advance. I'm sure they loved their furniture.

I am so fascinated..and apalled.....but fascination wins out. WOW!

I am speechless, except to say, someone has got to email them and see why they are selling their collection!

Yes, their ad explains that some of the furniture is in storage.

Check this out. These are the same sellers. At first it looks so "different" but upon closer inspection you can see signs of the same "taste" like with the lamps.

Sorry to disappoint anyone, but the ad says the lamps are definitely NOT FOR SALE. :)

    Just the tables.

It looks like they at one time had a large grand home and were forced to downsize due to hardship or change in financial circumstances? Possibly the ornate items were inherited form an elderly relative and no one bought them at the estate sale so they were stuck in storage? A Nigerian prince has been lining in Harrisberg, PA all along incognito.

Real marble. Could look good in the right castle.

They obviously had a certain style that they preferred and did not let anyone tell them otherwise. They are selling numerous lamps, knickknacks, pedestals, clocks, figurines, too. Enough to outfit a whole weekend castle. All of it top quality. But not cheap.

    .

    .

How did this "normal" piece slip into their apartment? It is the same seller. Notice the carved white table that was in the storage garage is the same.

    .

These are not the same lamps as the other figurine ones in the photo being sold. They only look similar.

Oh look, His and Hers lamps - I MUST have them!!

    Oh Holy Hannah!

Seems someone loves 'real' Italian furniture~can anyone say 'Italian Mafia'? Just a wild guess, but someone must have been 'fired'??LOL If the cause of the 'hot stuff' is downsizing, guess the mafia must be in trouble with it's 'business relations'. I can't imagine wanting to part with such gorgeous 'keepsakes'. LOL

You guys are too funny-- DH's cousin has her whole house in that style. She called it "French Versailles" (versus the french country that you peasants love so much LOL) :-D

The cousin has the same formal living room set, except hers is in pale French blue velvet and the carving is different. Same style lamps except her are 2 very cute French courtesans carrying umbrellas. I think she paid 20K for that living room set!

In the right context, it would look ok. Think Marie Antoinette. I bet a lot of estate homes in Beverly hills are done like this LOL :-)

I think they should go into some sort of "Rare Finds" museum.

Any single one of the pieces they are selling would look great as an accent piece (well almost), like these lamps below. It is the repetitive overkill of the ornate stuff each room has, juxtaposed in the tiny apartment that is outfitted with plastic mini blinds, nylon W2W carpeting, and drywall with hollow core doors.

They are selling a few 'normal' items like this real brass headboard they claim to be an antique. It is photographed in storage and I can only imagine how this shiny brass thing was decked out with accessories, and what 'complimentary' pieces were used in the room.

    .

Lovely flowers. Placing it on the ornate pedestal is overkill.

Welllllll.... at the risk of putting the cat among the pigeons, I'll just say that many of the homes I see posted on this board as ideals could use just a smidge of the amount of personality that this collection suggests! Or, maybe someone was living a life somewhat devoid of positive sensory experience - one of those rich, empty lives - and needed the overdose of embellishment that this environment provides to make them feel good. For the rest of us, it is a little eye-popping :-)

As to why it's for sale, it could be many things - I don't know the population of that area at all - but in my area the Italian population is aging and perhaps this is someone's children selling their parents' collection in an estate sale after a death or them going into a home. And that generation of Europeans did cling to its furniture. When my own grandparents moved from a house to an apartment in the '70s, they picked an apartment in a location entirely unsuited to their needs so that they could get a bedroom big enough to house their bedroom set.

All that said, I still love the furniture and the embellishment! For me it is also a refreshing change from the stark clinical look, ruthlessly repeated, that is peddled at us from the designer industry. Not just the modern style that makes you feel bad for having even a pincushion on the coffee table, but also the uninspired furniture that passes as 'the right look' everywhere.

NOT that I would pay anywhere near the asking price though!

I actually love the blue sofa's...sick huh!!

I wondered what was up with this many responses. lol

Crap, if I knew you guys thought this was that entertaining I would've posted some stuff for you a long ago. I hunt this CL often and they've been posting this furniture forever now. Hmmm... wonder why? :)

I believe that when these were purchased they were (a) smoking some really good weed, (b) coming off a hallucinagenic.

"I am speechless, except to say, someone has got to email them and see why they are selling their collection!"

The why they are selling does not really matter and they need offer no explanation. The bedroom set, console table and lamps are shown in the ads both in the apartment setting and in storage. The glider rocker in the bedroom makes me think this is all from the home of an elderly woman who has now passed on and the furniture did not sell right away and has now been put in storage hoping for the right buyer to come along.

What I am wondering about is........what about the kitchen?!? I would love to see pictures of the kitchen with balloon valances on the windows and tassels hanging off the refrigerator. With all that imported furniture for the home, do they have any cool imported French appliances like this?

I've actually seen these imported stoves show up on eBay and CL.

They are probably furniture dealers. There is a store not far from me that has that sort of furniture in spades. It's not old, not from someone's estate. It's brand new and best taken in very small doses. However, I've seen homes in this area decorated entirely in that style. Those homes typically have a fountain out front.

If they are furniture dealers they are very clever to have fooled me. The items they are selling look like they were photographed at an estate sale. They are also selling numerous electronics and you can see some of the fancy furniture in the background that appear in other photos for sale, like the grandfather clock and the arm of the floral couch, along with miscellaneous 'stuff' and trinkets that looks like it is for sale.

    .

It looks to me like they tried to 'straighten up' the place for the photos as many of the photos show junk flung out of the way into corners.

It looks to me like an apartment that was stuffed to the gills with knickknacks and living items like computers, TVs, and phones. But of course I could be wrong.

(Yowser. That house must have been packed with goodies.)

I guess the trick dealers use is to also sell a lot of used electronics to draw people to their store.

Even better is to advertise used electronics saying no photos are available.

Just One Question---How did they get all those pieces out of Versailles without anyone noticing????
