Cleaning ORB faucets

I asked about this in a topic last week, but I have no idea what topic it was. :)

I think ORB will go beautiful in my new kitchen. But we have hard water, and about twice a month I clean our chrome faucet with Lime Away with no problem. Will ORB hold up to Lime Away?

One thing I forgot to include in the makeover is a water softener! I could kick myself. It may not be too late, but we'll see.

I just don't want to invest in ORB if my cleaning products for hard water will take the finish off.

I would say it probably would hurt the finish, but does it say anything on the back of the bottle? Do they list a number of the back of the bottle?

I have heard of it damaging stainless steel sinks...I don't use anything but a little windex on my orb. I've also heard nickle doesn't hold up well to any acidic type cleaners.

Perhaps you should stick with chrome! It's timeless! If you do get the orb, perhaps you'll just have to be more consientious on drying it after use. I have an orb faucet in my powder bath, and we have city water, but it still gets some white spots in the crevices on my bath faucet. Sortof a pain to try and clean, but it does look pretty!

Hi Oakleyok........I have brushed nickel & the only thing I can use on mine is a soft cloth. Anything else will take the finish off. I know you are talking about ORB but I think I remember someone telling me an incident about it too. Alot of the new materials nowadays have a finish across them & comes off. My chrome upstairs in DD's bathroom stands up to comet but I am scared to death of the other finishes in this house. We are on our 2nd set of brushed nickel in our bathroom. This house was built in 2004. There are usually instructions in the box that tell you how to clean the faucet. I read them alittle late........:( Bonnie

You can switch to white vinegar to take off the minerals. Might be gentler than Lime Away. Maybe try it with your current faucet and see if plain vinegar is strong enough to do the job, before you invest in a new ORB faucet. I have used vinegar to clean my ORB powder room faucet and drain plug, but it is a light duty sink and our Lake Michigan water is not extremely hard. I would love ORB in my kitchen but am not sure itÂs up to heavy use.

In my kitchen I have a 4 year old pewter patina faucet that has become badly corroded. It was pretty pricey, by my standards, and quite a disappointment. There was some kind of lacquer coating that has blistered off and wherever the metal is bare it has corroded. I would love ORB in my kitchen but am not sure itÂs up to heavy use. No one but me EVER dries around the faucet. When I get sick enough of the corroded one I may try ORB but with an inexpensive model.

I would love to hear what others have to say on this, who have ORB in a heavily used kitchen!

Well, I do and can tell you it, the ORB finish, does wear away bit by bit. Mine is 2 years old and has begun to wear a little. I actually like this look...seeing the brass beneath. Suits me, as almost everything I own is worn and scratched.... some due to age and some on purpose! I really dislike most things( especially mirrors) looking spanking new...ha! I do NOT love that one of the handles on my frig has been scratched down to the brass in back....looks like ring marks, perhaps?

I have hard water and an ORB faucet in my kitchen and have never needed to use lime away (I will need to use something on the sprayer soon though). Anyway, I plan to put more ORB in the house in the future because the ORB does not spot. Perfect for a domestically challenged person like me.

caroleoh, I have a SS sink right now and the Lime Away has never damaged it.

Tish, what do you use to clean your faucet? Now that I think about it, it's never our fixtures that get the hard water build-up, it's the area where the faucet meets the sink top.

I'm so tired of chrome even though it's probably the best material for a faucet.

I'm getting ORB pulls and handles for the cabinets and wanted the faucet to match. I'll check the Lime Away bottle today and see what it says on the back.

We recently updated our master bath and used ORB faucets and accessories. The paperwork with the faucets specifically says to not use anything other than a damp cloth. Fortunately we don't have hard water, so I don't think it will be a problem. The finish on our faucets is also guaranteed, so keep your paperwork.

We had brass faucets in there for 11 years, and eventually it was not looking so great.

Doesn't windex have ammonia or something like that in it? I wonder about using it on ORB. Vinegar might be okay.
