Mirror Opinions, Please!

Ok fellow decorators. I've given my opinion on a lot of your projects and now I need your's for mine. This bathroom is close to being redecorated but I am completely at a loss with the mirror. I have shopped a lot and can't find anything I love. I don't even know what style this is, nor do I care. I tried for a bit of an organic feel. What do you all envision here?

I'm having a hard time getting a pic to show the real life colors. There is no natural light in here. It is the downstairs guest bath.

Not sure what you're after but I would go for an oval mirror there. It would compliment your sink. I googled for "organic" mirrors (wasn't sure what that was) and came up with a bunch from Moen which I've linked below for you. The style might suit what you hope to do... or not.
In my home I have both wrought iron and no trim bevel ovals. The WI mirrors might be to lacy for you but the side mirror which is a medicine cabinet might work.
BTW, I love the wall color!

This one would work, I like the idea of an oval, and it has a simple pewter frame that would work with all your accessories.

    westminster oval

This one intrigues me because it seems to pull in the tones of the vanity, but still has silver in the finish:

    cameo plum silver

You might also look at this one, which has a whole list of different finish options that could appeal to you:

I like the idea also of an oval mirror with metal trim. Is your hardware pewter? By organic, do you mean like a farm/cottage style? It looks like your faucet is like a pump. It would be helpful to get a better picture of your vanity light to see what style it is.

kats' mirrors are also very lovely.

    What about something like this?

Thanks Kats and les for responding.

Kats, by organic I meant kind of natural/woodsy, without getting themey. Thank you for the compliment on the paint color, that was quite the challenge for me. It started out a very dark brown, but DH just hated it. We settled on the color you see which is Devine Filbert.

And les - all the choices you linked were great. I hadn't really been looking at oval shapes. Since both you and Kat mentioned ovals - I need to pay more attention to them.

One thought I had was to get some molding and stain it the color of the vanity, and glue on some thinner rope molding kept it's natural color to match the color of the sink (picking up the rope detail from the sink also). I would do that in a rectangle. Do you think that would look too matchy?

valinsv - we were posting at the same time! Another vote for oval. I like your pick too. I will go try to get a better pic of the light fixture. The light fixture and hardware are rustic pewter.

    Something like this:

So here are a couple more pics of the light fixture. I also included a couple of others so you could get more of a feel: the flooring (still have to get the baseboard in, the towel rack and the area by the toilet.

Any recommendations on where to hang the pictures of the birds? My choices are: next to the toilet, above the toilet or across from the toilet (above the double towel rack).

valinsv - Yes! Something very much like that!!! What do you think? What if that rope detail were a contrasting color (see link for idea)? Or is it better to have it just blend in with the whole mirror? And what about oval vs. rectangle?

Man, that's what I love about this place. You all are so much help!

I wouldn't hang the bird pix until you install the mirror. It may change the feel of that wall so that you want something different there.

I could see a mirror the color of the vanity, but I don't think I would do the rope moulding - let the sink be distinctive (or is that di-sink-tive? LOL). What could be nice is a wider moulding in the wood tone, and a thinner inside fillet in the pewter color.

I'm sorry but I have to say it -- my opinion of mirrors is every year I hate them more!

That said, did you look at the bathroom thread in the Gallery? There are a ton of mirrors in gorgeous bathrooms there.

I have seen some very pretty rectangular mirrors recently at Homegoods. I saw a dark wood frame with sort of a coppery rubbed finish on it. Something like that might pull your pieces together nicely. I really like the light fixture you selected.

Les - good point on not hanging the bird pix yet. It doesn't even HAVE to be in there if anyone thinks something would be better. I am really struggling with the finishing touches. I'm so dense with some of this stuff, but would a pewter colored "fillet" be a certain style? Or does fillet just mean an inset piece?

Oceanna - I haven't looked at all the gallery pictures, trouble is that right now I don't know which direction to go with the mirror.

Retunqueen - (love the name - I might be the princess) Thanks for the compliment on the light fixture. All the fixtures are Price Pfisters Ashfield collection in Rustic Pewter. The first light fixture I picked out, ummm.....I returned it! HaHa I did consider coppery notes but wasn't sure if it clashed with the rustic pewter.

Is there a rule of thumb on the height of a framed mirror? I'm thinking the top should sit below the shades of the light fixture? And don't have a clue about how far above the countertop it should sit.

Yes, I understand that you're trying to pick out a mirror, which is why I suggested you look in the gallery. From the gallery... (and there is much more)...

I think an oval would look softer. Your wall color is so pretty. You need something to keep that softness going on.

I looked at Home Depot online and don't see the mirror I'm thinking of online..

They have an oval mirror, it's about $50, and from looking at your space, looks like it would fit there well. It's very pretty, has a frosted Magnolia going around it.

A fillet is just a narrow strip of moulding around the inside perimeter of the larger frame. It could be textured or fancy, or just plain.

Thanks for posting all those beautiful bathrooms

I think the mirror that Valinsv posted, with the "rope trim", would work great in your bathroom, especially after seeing your flooring and hardware. It would coordinate well and bring in some more texture. You've put together a nice combination, it will look beautiful when finished.

Oceanna - thank you for taking the time to post those pics. Last night I did go through the entire bathroom gallery and concluded that "anything" goes. Man, there is some crazy stuff in there.

brutuses and roselvr you guys think ovals too - thanks for the input.

les - thanks for the fillet lesson. :)

onourway - I liked the rope trim mirror too. Thanks for the encouragement on the combo - I have never had a complete vision for this bathroom, just kind of winging as I went hoping that in the end it looks like it was "on purpose", and didn't make guests wonder what the heck I was thinking! :) Plus it has been a low budget reno, reusing everything that I could.

I appreciate the opinions everybody. I don't entirely trust my decorating choices, so it helps to have some extra viewpoints.

I really like the bird picture. Can you tell me where you got it?

dgmarie - believe it or not I found that bird pic at Ross. It is even made in the USA. That was a huge score for me.
