The Halo is almost there.
I saw them at a green building show.

But the Cree still has the edge.

The Halo uses 15 watts compared to the Cree's 12 watts.
Halo puts out 600 lumens, Cree 650 lumens.

So not only is the Cree brighter, but it uses less power doing it.

The Halo bulb is very harsh in the center. The use either one LED chip or a few right next to each other in the middle.
The Cree bulb uses an array of evenly spaced LED chips. This gives a much less harsh glare from the fixture.

The Cree has a CRI of 92, the Halo of 80 (maybe 85). This means that colors of anything being lit up by these bulbs will look more true with the Cree (since the Color Rendering Index is much higher).

And finally- the Halo is more expensive.

Thanks lightguy! The showroom owner suggested using the "moisture resistant lens" to decrease the harshness--he said it wouldn't decrease the light it put out but that doesn't seem quite right. Without the diffusing lens the Halo did look very harsh--your eyes are drawn to the bright square of light! He quoted both the LR6 and the Halo/lens with the AT IC enclosures at $133 each.

It was hard to evaluate color rendering in a showroom with lots of ambient light!

We have been coerced/forced to go with Title 24 fixtures with the remodel and are strongly leaning away from the CFL recessed cans.

Stick with the Cree. Even at the same price, it's a deal.

Don't forget about the Cree LR4. It satisfies Title 24 and is a smaller opening than both the others.

Cree actually has their own housing for Title 24 applications.
I have been using Liton very successfully as well.
