Can you post a sketch of your layout? It could look odd if only 1 cab was lit, but maybe it would look special.....

here is a picture of willowdecors kitchen (love!) it seems like she has 8 foot ceilings but are the uppers 36"? i think if the part below the X was solid, it would look strange but i think mine would be taller so more proportionate? 24" of solid cabinet and 12" with lighted glass pane. and then 6 inches for moulding?

are those 42"? (minus the trim)

The one you just posted looks taller than 42" to me (probably 48"), but it's the right idea.

I just saw this today and it can give you an idea of what it could look like. Just imagine glass instead of the cutouts in the top panel.

Here is another that I'm not at all crazy about. It looks like these are only 36"H cabinets. I think the width of the doors would be important to give them a tall slender look instead of a boxy look.

Since the glass will be smaller I would consider one pane in each door rather than the four.

i found this picture on houzz. apparently what i am looking for has a name! they are called transom cabinets! here is info about the cabinets in this picture: The uppers are 39" high including the crown molding, the doors themselves are 36". It is a vaulted ceiling but where the uppers meet the ceiling it is 7'9".
