We use Havoc, on vet's advice. It is supposed to be relatively harmless second hand (from the mouse). HOWEVER, don't let kitty get to it in its original form (I use pellets). It works very well.

Just put maybe 1/4 cup or so of pellets in a shallow container (I use a Folgers coffee plastic lid) and put it where you have seen evidence but is NOT ACCESSIBLE to your kitty. Keep refilling until they don't come back for more. For us it was about 3 days, and I just leave it there, in the way back of a kitchen cupboard, in case they decide to try again. Hope this helps.

I use a rat zapper. Battery operated, 4 D batteries. It electrocutes the critters. I don't like using poison because you don't know where the critter dies. If it is in the house or walls, then you have dead, smelly critters you can't find.

Thanks to both of you for the responses - the rat zapper sounds right up my alley. I'll check the local hardware stores where I live in Maine, and I'll let you know how it goes:)

I used the Zapper much better than trying to find the rotting mouse.

Try using cola soda pop in flat pans or lids. They can't burp so they die.
