Jenilyn's MCM thread

Another poster suggested I start a thread and add to it with all my CL, MCM questions, etc. Great idea!

First let me fill you in.

We are doing a pretty major renovation upstairs in our trilevel, three bedrooms and a bath. While that is going on, I've been racking my brain about how I want to decorate these rooms.

I'm thinking it has to be all about efficiency at this point, less is more, minimalism.

My kids are getting older, I have three. I work. I don't want to spend all my free time with upkeep on the house. I want to spend my time enjoying my hobbies more.

With that in mind, I'm leaning toward a more modern/MCM style.

Here is what I have so far. If you have any advice or ideas, please let me hear them!

First is my 17-year-old. It's funny but he is the one that got me into the retro stuff! The wall color is his choice SW edamame, the comforter set from Wal-Mart on clearance I might add and a lamp I'm hoping to win on e-bay. We will see, I usually don't have very good luck with that. Also the dresser has a mirror that sits on the back to one side.

My 15-year-old. Paint color is his choice SW fired brick, comforter set from Kohl's.

The hallway. SW latte.

The trim is white. I'm putting new white mini blinds in each room. I'm not sure if I will be doing curtains. The carpet is tan. I need artwork and nightstands. Any other suggestions?

hmmmm, I think that is it.

I did find these lamps that I like on e-bay. LOVE them. So, now I'm keeping my eye out for a credenza, buffet type piece for my dining area, just in case I win them!

So, anyways, instead of having many many threads, I will just check back with this one. I hope I haven't bored you all to pieces!

I love what you have selected so far! Look forward to seeing pictures of the progress.

I'm impressed! I love what you have selected and the way you are putting it all together. You do have a good eye for this.

I love your bold use of color in the space and the Modern print to the bedding.

I can't wait to see the progress.

I was the one who suggested keeping it all in one thread. I'm glad you did not take offense to the suggestion. It is going to be so much easier to help with an opinion on a piece when asked, if we all can see what the overall vision is for the space rather than just viewing an orphaned dresser and then trying to guess if it would be all worth it for the space.

I see posts like this where everything looks great together and get totall inspired! My husband hates the MCM look so I'll be enjoying your posts in lieu of my own mid-century shopping spree.

I love the paint colors, your kids have great taste!

So far, so good! I think an MCM look is great for kids. Not fussy, easy to straighten up. We've got an MCM home and have gotten the main living areas pretty period-appropriate. But the bedrooms and office are another story. Bravo for your good work in the bedrooms!

Your bedrooms are shaping up great! The dressers are beautiful. I have an MCM/danish modern dining set that I'm about to sell because I need a bigger table. But I love the look.

Hey guys, do you think this table would coordinate well with the first room (with the green walls)? It's up on ebay and the seller is in OHIO! If I win the auction and could pick it up and save on shipping that would be awesome!
    What do you think?

and here is the green room again.

Wow, everything is so pretty. It's going to look beautiful.

The table is very unusual, which i like, but i would find out how stable it is. I don't know why, but that design looks a little tippy to me.

Well, I didn't win the lamp! GAH! I have such terrible luck with ebay. I guess it just wasn't meant to be. I'll have to think twice about the table. It would be used as a nightstand and wouldn't hold much, but you are right, it might tip.

Do you use a Snipe website? Some are free. You register, tell them the item, your highest price and they bid for you last few seconds. I've won several items that way.

I can look up the one I use, if you want to give it a try.

Allison, yes let me know. I get so frustrated with ebay sometimes. I hate that people wait til the last minute and outbid another person, but if that is what everyone else does, sigh. Anyways, I found another lamp on ebay. How do you think this would look in the green room? It has the tripod base, but the legs look more spread out to me and maybe less wobbly? I'm seeing a trend here. I guess I just really like this style.
    Would love your input!

    I use Auction Stealer.

I think either table would work. Heck, get both! lol

I really like this second lamp choice. I like the contrast between the wood and the cream, and the lines are really "clean." Ordinarily, i'm not fond of lamp/table combination pieces, but this one is really striking me for some reason.

I missed the first little table when posted. I like the look for the room as a bedside table. It did not look 'tippy'. I think the camera distorted the item in the pic.

I like the second one with the white shade for the room too. Make sure you know the size of the items. The second one looks like it may be huge, but in a larger BR it would work.

You are finding some great stuff.

    Hey Jenilyn!

How's the decorating going? I loved this thread and was wondering where you were at now. Did you get that tripod lamp afterall? Are you finding it difficult to pull the look together for the whole house? I'm sure I'm not the only one who is curious! Update us! :)
