Question for pillog

Pillog: I liked the stools you posted on my "year later" post, the contemporary ones. Do you think they will work with my kitchen, since they are polished chrome and I have stainless steel everywhere else?

I am worried that I am starting to mix too many looks. I like eclectic but it seems I might be going overboard. Yet, I like the clean lines of that stool and they seem softer than most stools I'm finding. Pictures of my kitchen are under my "Year Later: still haven't finished kitchen" post.

As always, your advice, and anyone else's on this site, is much appreciated.

I have stainless steel appliances and have chrome with black seat bar stools on the far side of my island. They look fine, perhaps (or especially) because I have a 6 foot white oak parson table with raw (black) steel legs.

    Hi KC!

Do I think they'll go? Not really. It's not the chrome. Chrome can work fine with stainless. Mixing things works if there are rules. If one of the rules is that furniture bases are chrome, but the other hardware is stainless, this works.

    It's this stool, right?

I had posted it because it's so cool, before I saw your pictures. The total look of the room is much more traditional than I had thought, and the stool is way too modern. Yes, what you have is eclectic, but it all works harmoniously and has a particular vibe.

That said, if you can make the color work (it comes in brown and black but you could paint and reupholster), and you really love it, go for it! The other thing that worries me, however, is that it might be uncomfortable.

It looks like your counter may be an in between height. If that's true, having an adjustable height stool like this is a good thing!

Something a little similar, though maybe easier to blend into your kitchen decor, and maybe a little comfier, is this one, also from Overstock, though it's a couple of inches wider.

Still, the others are tres cool.

Thanks Pllog. Yes that was the stool I was thinking about. I wanted some kind of back support because my mother visits often and has Parkinson's. I thought that chair provided nice support and I was thinking of reupholstering it. But I think I will keep shopping. I saw the other one you posted and stopped when I saw that too but it may be too big for the space. What I liked about the first stool was the airy look - thought visually it wouldn't take as much space. But then again, I'm no expert at this.

You're quite right about the airiness. If I knew where you live I've forgotten--do you have a big barstools store anywhere near you? Because I think if you're thinking of your mother, you're best off taking her to sit test the stools. Do some pre-shopping, of course, then take her to try out the ones you think you might want to buy.

Is she okay with stools to begin with? My mother doesn't have any particular disorder, but she does not do stools.

Here's a more traditional one, but interesting, with clean lines. It might be too wide for you, but there aren't many wood ones which are smaller. It comes in a variety of finishes and fabrics.

This one is airy, and an inch smaller. No color choices, though, but very cute.

A very modern one which I think might still go well in your space. It's just a small, metal back, low profile, but it might be enough for your mom. Again, I think the adjustable height might be good, and the square seat might be easy sitting for someone with issues.

I live in California, and know nothing about the East other than something of the sort must exist in your area. I'm under the impression that if it exists anywhere, you can find it in New York. :)
