Today was a good day...

Our cracked, new super white countertop was repaired today and DH and I were very happy with the results and level of service from our fabricator.

We found ourselves in an unexpected tiff with our floor guy where he threatened to charge us an extra $1K for a mistake he made -- that we resolved by our wonderful GC. They came in to resand/refinish the mistake today and we owe him nothing!

I managed to finally boil water in my new kitchen... big deal since we've been secluded in our unfinished basement using the microwave, toaster oven, and electric griddle for the last 7 weeks:

But happiest part was finally being able to cook a hot dinner for my 2yo and myself (DH working tonight)... even if it was just a homestyle, thrown-together dish!

Japanese wheat noodles with tomatoes, onions and eggs:

Just had to share because it was a rough weekend, mentally, with those first 2 items weighing on our minds... Oh, and the end is starting to feel within reach!!

Hooray for Dragonfly! I was wondering about how the counter issue was resolving. Don't you feel so much lighter and bouncier now that those two issues were amicably resolved? I remember how I floated on air after my drywall guy easily admitted that his guys messed up my chilling texture and that they would fix it asap without any cost to me. I had been dreading meeting with him.

Dinner looks yummy! Congrats on all fronts.

Glad to hear it worked out and that you are now COOKING in your kitchen!

Glad I am not the only one with an autocorrect on spelling, Breezy. Chilling texture = ceiling texture (I think).

Thanks! By the way, breezy... with all these unexpected things popping up, my 2wk reveal doesn't seem like it's going to happen! hahaha...

Definitely a good day! It must feel great to have those two situations end up smoothly when it often doesn't!

I just got off the phone with my fabricator about some super white slabs we plan to put in. I'd love to see more picture of your counters if you have them. I'm curious when the crack occurred in your counter? Was it during fabrication, install, after install?

I was wondering what "chilling texture" was too . . .

LOL, Colorfast! Yes, I meant ceiling texture. Autospell and tired fingers are my downfall every time. I have a hard time typing on the ipad. I pretty much two finger it. Grrr. Though I wonder what we could come up with for 'chilling texture' could equate to....

Dragonfly--don't worry about your timeline. Getting it done right and with as little stress as possible (another LOL) is the best approach.

Glad to hear things are moving along for you! I am a bit jealous of that pot of boiling water! We too have been in the basement for 7-8 weeks now! This weeks progress......electrical finished, backsplash done! Floor starts getting sanded and refinished tomorrow, so I am hoping for. MY own pot of boiling water on the weekend! Painter is coming next week, I am struggling with paint color at the moment! Pics soon!

bodhi, here's a link to some photos I posted on the day the countertops were installed. If you are looking for more photos, I can post more. My slab definitely has plenty of inherent fissures, most of them old (ancient?) because you can see recrystallization that formed along and within the fissures. The vast majority of them are not a problem and actually lend to the beauty of the piece with all the lines and veinings. I believe this particular fissure was just in a bad spot, forming a nice corner. They did not have any problems with it during fabrication or installation and it was a part of the countertop I kept my eye on just because the fissure was so prevalent. I'm guessing that when the stone came to room temperature (and being located just above our DW -- some bit of heat?), it just cracked. FYI, I'm in central NY where outside temps have been 20-35 degrees lately.
Anyway, good luck with your counters! I can't wait to see finished photos... super whites are so pretty!!

Christine... the weekend will be here soon enough. I struggled with my wall colors, too... but going into BM store and speaking with their color consultant was the best thing I ever did. After 5 minutes, I was done (probably exhausted from making decisions at that point, too!)!
