I cant decide!!...

I need to order wallpaper for my bathroom. Heres the original pic...

{{!gwi}}

Ive decided to go with a black and white wallpaper, but Im not sure which one I like better. I love toile and we have it in our bedroom, but we have red.

Deciding on which wallpaper I pick, depends on which way I go on the rest. Im not quite sure on flooring, but new is a definite must!

Choice #1

Choice #2

Choice #3 (theres also one with circles like this)

I would like to put some fabric of some sort around the sink OR paint the bottom as its kind of rusted. Curtains will be replaced, not sure with what, but Im sure I can find something. And its not that much fabric :) I want to put a black rug down, hate white! (I have 4 young children and its impossible to keep white).

gosh-I would think about picking the flooring first and then the wallpaper-or at least do them at the same time. Now what I see is a grey floor and deeper grey walls. Replace all the chrome with a wrought iron-even the legs to the sink. Paint the pipes under the sink. I do not think fabric with kids will work out that well. As for the iron legs-you might have to go to welder or iron works place. Anyway-sorry not what you asked but just my thoughts. It will all turn out great!

I like the first one which is clearly a toile. I'm not fond of faux old catalogue ads - my SIL had something similar in the 80's. I don't know the first time I saw it I thought it was cute but the more I saw it I got so tired of it. I also like the third but I don't think it works in your room because of all the open white space in the design.

As for the chrome, I would leave it as it is original and adds to the charm of your bathroom. Your bathroom is what it is, an older bathroom and trying to change a few items to wrought iron I don't think will do it justice and just look pastiche - but then I don't have much imagination and maybe I just can't picture it. There are people trolling old building supply places looking for sinks just like you have in place.

I absolutely adore the aqua blue tile. I did mention this before in your kitchen - you can buy special paint to paint ceramic tiles - I'd love to see you paint the pink tile to maybe black if you don't incorporate the pink into the new scheme. Personally I hope you work with the aqua and pink and maintain the integrity of the original style.

I would go with the toile wallpaper. Here is another black toile wallpaper you might want to consider also:

Do the last one which goes with much better with your bathroom because it is more transitional / contemporary. The others are too busy.

Yah.. a full makeover isnt in the budget, just looking at doing some changing. Ill be putting in white tile at some point.

#3 was thrown in there as not as busy. My favorite is actually the newspaper print, Ive had it in my bookmarks for awhile, but was afraid it would be too busy. So then I thought of the toile.. would the toile keep the 50s look like the newspaper print would?

Actually, now that I think about it, I like the 3rd one best for your room. Toile is just not 50's and the second one just doesn't work there either.

Of the last 2, I like the first one better. Of the first grouping, I like #3 better. My eyes are drawn to simple. But, why not paint? You could paint subtle stripes or just paint a solid color. Seems there's enough color in your tile to forget about wallpaper?

I don't know if you saw any of my previous posts, but I had a similar decision to make. You'll see that I found two other newspaper prints that you mind want to consider. I'm not a contemporary person so I'm not crazy about the 3rd one or any of the ones you posted after that.

I really don't see toile or the newspaper print for the bathroom at all. The room is very retro and I think you should go in that direction.

I like the big circles fit the style the best. I feel the room really needs wallpaper that is retro. There are many retro wallpapers out there that are beautful and would tie in the colors of you current tiles. This bathroom could be a lot of fun.

Of the first three you posted, the third has a more vintage look like your tile. I also think the toile and newspaper prints are a bit much with the tile you have. A light open print like #3 focuses on color and the nice vintage sink you have in there.

I'd think, though, that you'd want to tie to the look you have going in your mbr, which is a red toile ... so not sure where that takes you :)

I just assumed you were changing the green and pink tile. Is it staying?

A few that are based on the color of the tile. Is this a master bath, kids bath or family bathroom?

You've got a vintage 1920-30's bathroom. I say keep it simple - paint, no wallpaper, new hex tile floor. If you wallpaper, I think you'll lose the "punch" of that awesome wall tile. If it were my bathroom, I'd make the wall tile the focal point - wallpaper will compete with it.

I'd pait the walls either a solid white, or a paler version of the turquoise tile color. The tile is busy enough by itself and I think wallpaper will fight with it. I'd like to see the floor darker, too, and I wonder if you could find something in that same (or close) turquoise color.

Tiles are staying. I like them. Plus they are really thick and would be impossible to take off!

This house was built in 59 and tiles are original to it.

Right now the walls (and cieling) are painted a light green, and I dont like the way it looks.

Finding something that matches the turquoise is near impossible. I have been looking for some so that I can fix where the po took out the old shower and took out too much tile by the tub. Id like to replace it.

    Paints always the cheaper option!!

I really like the idea of black and white wallpaper in this room. In the first group I like the 3rd option. In the second group I like the 1st option. That one (the circles) is my favorite. But there are tons of black and white papers out there if these are too funky for you.

I agree with those who say keep it simple. Unlike the black and white bathroom posted above (which is gorgeous) I think that black and white wallpaper just doesn't seem to go in there. I would also absolutely NOT do anything to ruin those fabulous chrome vintage fixtures. I am paying a *#@() fortune to get a similar look in my new bathroom. I think a nice, simple, crisp white would look best in there.

Out of the wallpaper choices you posted I like #3 the best but I think I agree with other posters about painting the walls white. Perhaps then do a black and white curtain in a vintage fabric? I'd definitely keep those vintage fixtures too.

I think the toile is too formal for the bath, and the newsprint feels more appropriate for a victorian decor. The last one is too open a pattern for the small space.

What about a soft stripe like this, which has the turquoise and the pink of the tiles, plus a fresh green? It would give some subtle interest without overpowering the bath.

Thank you everyone for your help. I never even thought of white paint lol. Seems I keep trying to get away from it. I think I will do white paint and then find some black and white curtains. Ill have to see what I can find! Paints a whole lot cheaper than wall paper, thats for sure. And I have to paint the ceiling as the po painted it the same ick green as teh walls. And they missed so many spots in there.

Plain white walls is a far, far better choice than the wallpaper, I think. Then a couple of pieces of interesting artwork would be nice. I agree with everybody who said "keep it simple." Let the retro fixtures and tile make the statement for the room.

You have 50's era tile, I believe. My grandmother lived in a beautiful custom ranch built in 1954. I will always remember her guest bath--aqua tiles similar to yours with a black background wallpaper featuring pinecones and pine needles. There was pink and aqua in the pine cones/needles. She was tempted to replace the wallpaper many times, but we wouldn't let her! Everyone loved the dramatic effect of the black against the aqua. She died in 1984, and the wallpaper was still there looking gorgeous as ever! Just a thought . . .

The black and white toile is the same pattern I just finished putting in our powder room. You can see the pictures on about page 10, dated Dec. 30 and subject is Powder Room finished. Our house was built in 1954 and I saw your old post of your kitchen and our cabinets are about the same with the same hardware. I'm hoping this year we can update them. Good luck on your choice in your bathroom. Evelyn
