curtains

If any of you have old colonials- do all of your curtains match in the front for a symmetrical look? I am trying to find some plain sheers for my extra long windows. I am deciding if I want the same curtains in the front or different for each room.

If you have simple sheers, where did you get them?

I like the look of all windows matching from the outside.. but really allyou have to do is make sure all your curtains are lined the same.. then you can have whatever you want on the inside to go with the room. As for sheers.. Linnen's and things is good.. but I have also seen some nice ones at Target. The kick to getting them to look really lush is adding an extra panel... and putting curtain weights on the bottoms.

I found sheers at a fabric salvage shop in NC when visiting my sister. I paid for them by the pound.
Unfortunately I couldn't get enough all the same for all the rooms...so I went for using the same color sheers with a lacey pattern in all the rooms. When you pass the house you can't tell the difference in the patterns...you just notice they are all lacey and white.

My windows are extra long too and what I did was to hang the sheers inside the window instead of outside. That way I could use the 84" standard length. Worked great!

here is a shot of our bay window in the living room. These windows are not quite as long, but I hung the curtains the same way. I have hung all of the curtains inside of the window frame in the whole house.

Mary Lu - Love your curtains!!!

I line all my curtains in white, so yes, they all match from the outside.

Mary Lu, those are beautiful curtains! I too hang my sheers inside the windows (I make them myself to the size I need). I have radiators below most windows, so I can't have long drapes. My curtains don't all match, but I have an asymmetrical tudor style house, so it doesn't matter as much. The front-facing bedroom curtains are lined in white, but I don't have sheers there. The guest room has wood blinds. The dining room has sheers, and the living room is not done yet, but will have sheers and panels on the sides. (There's enough room to clear the radiators, so they won't show too much from the outside, but they'll be lined in white to match the bedroom just above). Now I just have to save the money for the fabric I want to use....

Thanks bulldinkie. That is what I thought - I have been looking on line - I can't find one that is 60" long - is that too long for spring loaded?

Sorry I didn't answer your question sooner, as I was out of town and no computer! :o(

Yes, they are the spring/tension kind. Not sure how long you can buy them. Sorry I couldn't help there. I have the wide 2" spring loaded curtain rods in another room also.(with drape-type tie back curtains)
