inset cabinets

Anyone do a price comparison of inset cabinets? I am looking for a few brands to compare pricing and availablity. I'm looking for very plain doors -- arts & Craft or shaker, and a decent quality.

Thanks for any help,

Suzanne

I did a lot of shopping around. I loved Plain and Fancy but they were pricy.. so a company tried to gear me to a more budget line they carried of Yorktown, but I felt the finish on them was not comparable to a P&F. After reviewing many other lines such as Signature and .... I forget the other names.. I found I got the best quality for the price with Mouser. I wanted a painted finish ... i think if you are looking for a wood stain then you might be pleased with a Yorktown and they are even cheaper then Mouser.

We considered both Mouser and Shiloh. Shiloh is offering inset at no upcharge. I preferred their creamy color, too. Our Shiloh beaded inset cabinets will be here in another few weeks.

My Shiloh beaded inset cabs are going in even as we type! So far, they are everything I had hoped. Will post pics next week.

See if there's a Showplace dealer in your area. They are less than P&F.

Click on link below to see what they offer. The use white oak for their quartersawn oak wood option. It's more authentic looking for the Stickley-Mission look. Medallion uses red oak and it's not as pretty.

Suzanne: If you are located in the Boston area I would check out Faneuil Kitchen Cabinets in Hingham. They were the best price and quality for my budget when I was shopping around. Their website is www.finecabinets.com

So someone here posted that shiloh is offering inset at no extra charge. I just got back from my KD where it was 5K extra- not a lot on their quote of 50K+ but still not free. Is my KD not passing along a discount?

Another vote for Shiloh inset cabinets as well. We had ours installed about 8 months ago (can't believe it's been that long already) and we love them. We did no bead, standard inset cabinets. Great deal.

adh673 - My cabinets were ordered a couple of weeks ago and we got Shiloh inset with no upcharge. They also let us do 13" deep upper cabs at no upcharge. Push your KD to call the local rep.

Dynasty, a semi-custom cabinet made by Omega (a custom line) just recently started offering inset and seemed to have reasonable prices. The salesperson I met with said that you can't tell the difference (in terms of quality) between Dynasty and Omega since they are made in the same factory.

We ended up going with Fieldstone inset cabinets (a custom line), because the salesperson was able to offer a good deal.

I installed a beautiful Madison inset door vanity through CWP cabinetry (high end custom). Simple and elegant but not as plain as Shaker. I also ordered through CWP's mid-range line, New River cabinetry, which also has a few inset doors. The framing is slightly less than CWP but my contractor says they are still a very good quality cabinet. I am also a big fan of inset doors (look best in my prewar California bungalow) and never realized they would be harder to find than the raised panel doors! I found the same to be true finding a simple inset single panel door as well. Seems like everyone is looking for raised panels these days!

I'm not sure you can't tell a dynasty from an omega...a quick look at the box might open your eyes :) That said, their door styles are probably hard to tell apart. Omega is a 15% upcharge for inset. Beaded or not beaded is the same cost.

Another vote to explore the Showplace line if you have a dealer in your area. Sometimes you have to look deeper to make sure you are quoting apples to apples.

Showplace inset offers 13" or 14" deep wall cabinets at no extra charge. Tha is really important if you have larger dishes you want to store since the door "fits into the cabinet." The high-end Blum brand full-extension drawers with the really cool soft closing action are also included in the base price.

Watch for deals and specials, they are going on all around. Some brands offer salesperson spiffs too (this is a secret payment to the salesperson to sell a brand) which may have them steering you to a brand that is in their best interests but not yours. Ask the sales person if there is a spiff involved and watch for their reaction! If they hesitate in saying "no" that should be a clue.

adh: it says on their home page, lower left:

"Flush & Beaded Inset Cabinetry now available

    Currently offered at
    NO UPCHARGE

    Not available in all areas"

Worth a call to Shiloh to see if you can get what you want with no upcharge.

    THANK YOU!

Hi there! We just had our new INSET cabinets installed on Friday... Shiloh's Homestead cabinets in Polar White. NO UPCHARGE at all. WE LOVE them! I'd post pictures, but I'm not sure how to do that!

grandaddyshouse, would love to see your photos as I'm very interested in Shiloh's inset cabinets. Just upload your photos to any web hosting site like tinypic.com and then copy the area that states HTML for websites. It begins with Post this in your message and then click preview message to see if the photo appears before posting.

    good luck!

The cabinet box on Dynasty inset cabinetry is constructed with a 3/4" plywood side, just as Omega. There are minor construction differences between the two, but in my opinion, not enough to justify the upcharge in Omega (Omega cabinetry cost is about 30% higher than Dynasty plus an 18% upcharge for inset). They are now offering beaded inset through Dynasty.

We went with Mouser for our shaker-style white inset cabinets when we remodeled three years ago -- they are still beautiful. Although Mouser's gallery of finished kitchens shows lots of fussy old world designs which aren't my taste at all, they have lots of simple designs to choose from (and lots of shades of white available). At the time, I remember that they were much more reasonably priced than other cabinets. Our KD recommended them because their painted finishes were so durable. So far so good with us.

I just posted a bunch of pictures of our kitchen -- just do a search for "kfroddy" and the post entitled "Finished Creamy White Kitchen" if you want to see.

judgeheyjude: Do you have any pictures of your cabinets that you can share? We're considering CWP inset, as well. Did you go with paint or stain? Thanks!
