Is it really tin roofing or some kind of coated or electroplated steel or aluminum?

Real Follansbee tin standing seam roof originally installed about 20 years ago, repainted about 10 years ago.

In the old days, we used Tin-o-lin red oxide paint and then topcoated with an oil roof paint. The last job I can remember where we used this was in 2000. Since then we have been using the acrylic stuff from Ben Moore (and regretting it). Deserves to be stated that all the standing-seam roofs we have been doing in the last 10 years have been with prepainted stock.
To clarify: we don't do metal roofing ourselves in-house, they are subbed out to our very old-school metal roof guy, who's almost 70.

Is it tin coated steel or terne coated steel or terne coated stainless steel?

Traditionally Terne was an approximately 20% tin and 80% lead alloy coating on steel or iron roofing panels and it had to be painted and repainted.

20 years ago I believe Follansbee was making Terne-coated stainless steel (TCS) that did not need to be painted and might have already moved on to Terne-coated stainless steel (TCSII) with 50% tin & 50% zinc that also did not need to be painted.

I'm aware of the difference & this roof is not coated stainless - it's a traditional "tin" roof.

You sound like you know what you're doing so I'll leave you alone.
