We are in the process of building a new house. The great room will have a vaulted ceiling and be painted a medium taupe color with a darker carpet. Currently I have brown furniture and a patterned chair that has some deep red, yellow/gold and green. There are a lot of windows in the room, a set of 3 in the front and a set of three in the back. What color/type of window treatments? Can I do black/grey? We have a transitional style.

Hi Mrs. NIKT, Marie here.
First, it would be helpful to have pictures of the furniture you will have in the room.
Rule of thumb I use in all my new builds is for the custom window treatments, like Hunter Douglas - go neutral. If your window casings are white, then do white window treatments.
Add your splash of colour to compliment your furnishings in drapery panels that soften the edges.
Best bang for your buck really - then, as your tastes change, you won't have a costly expense of replacing your window treatments - other than a simple drapery panel...good luck!

Here are pics of the furniture not sure yet which couch we will be using. You can see the chair off to the side. Don't mind the background that is the old house.
