Glaze over drywall????

My kitchen cabinets will be installed Monday evening. This weekend we need to get final prep painting completed. We have painted in the wall areas to make that easier. I want to paint the range hood/vent area prior to install. Our custom vent is about 5 feet wide and reaches to the 10 foot ceilings. It has a ledge and side columns as well as an arched niche area in the center (not very deeply recessed). I may eventually have the niche area tiled to match the kitchen backsplash. The entire thing is framed in wood and covered in drywall. Our kitchen cabinets that meet up to this will be stained a medium dark, reddish brown stain over cherry wood. Our island is painted and looks just like kraftmaid's vanilla bean glaze. A creamy white look with brownish glaze.

To make a long story shorter...I would like the hood/vent unit to match the island. Oh, it will have crown moulding on it too, at the top and at the ledge area. The island is done in laquer. Do you suggest I paint the hood/vent in semi-gloss that closest matches the base color before the glaze? Then should we paint the crown and glaze that area. It seems as if the glaze drastically changes the overall color and I'm concerned they will look very different. OR is it possible to use the glaze over the drywall, after a few coats of paint?!?! Anyone ever heard of this? I'm assuming it would wipe off if the paint is adhered properly, first?! Any suggestions?!?! Thanks!
