texturing interior walls

I live in Florida, the state where almost every home's interior wall (and ceilings) are textured.... that is unless it was originally wallpapered, as in the case of our guest bathroom....our latest "project" !! We have successfully removed all wallpaper and adhesive residue, "patched" any gouges, depressions, cracks, etc., even filled in "low spots" and large linear depressions in the wall with built-up applications of drywall compound. Nice, straight and somewhat smooth....... I applied a coat of Benjamin Moore 100% ACRYLIC (Int./Ext.) PRIMER and all it needs now is ORANGE PEEL TEXTURING !! I used to paint automobiles years ago and have a good technique when it comes to painting with an air compressor and spray gun. I just purchased a brand new Stanley Goldblatt plastic HOPPER (metal gun) TEXTURE sprayer. It has two different nozzles as well as an adjustable disc with close to a dozen holes to get my spray "adjusted" to the pattern (fine orange peel) I desire. This is the FIRST TIME I will ever be using a TEXTURE sprayer. I have used those Homax SPRAY CANS for my last project, about a dozen of them (expen$ive !!) and even though I liked the fact it came out BLUE for good visibility and dried white, I was totally annoyed by the fact the LAST CAN (figures, doesn't it) was "defective" and "splattered and sputtered" and messed up a really decent job in some spots !!

I am in search of "TIPS & TECHNIQUES" that readers of this forum message can provide me, as well as information on what Manufacturer's products will work best, or should I used watered down drywall compound ?? I want to TINT (or color) the TEXTURE so I can "see" it being applied to the white (Acrylic primer) walls. Please remember, this is only a small 9 x 5 guest bathroom with the tub area already tiled, leaving me with a maximum of about 110 square feet.

THANKS (in advance) for your help !!
