IMO - the guy is a hack. Tell him you want him to take it off. It's not proper to paint gaskets.

Great advice, Geoffrey, but we are afraid he might damage our door or do something else to mess it up. We think he had one of his part-time kids to do the door and they didn't know better! It's unfortunate.

I think it's okay to paint that black hard rubber on the bottom of the sidelites because it doesn't move. Weatherstrips, no.
