Do house painters often do shingle carpentry?

The house needs to be stripped of original shingles, re-sided and then stained or painted.

I got one painting company that quoted the whole job (strip, re-shingle with cedar shingles, and then paint). I was surprised, because I thought I would need to find a separate carpentry outfit/GC to do the shingle work.

Anyone have an idea as to whether painters typically do whole-house shingle replacements? I thought painting companies would only replace a few here and there as needed, but this is a strip & replace on a 2-story house.

I am assuming one would be foolish to allow anyone less than a certified carpenter to replace shingles. If I am off on that assumption please share, thanks!
