To me the Raspberry truffle has too much blue for your fabric. Something warmer would be better. I agree about the Waverly or the LA paints. (They are sold at Lowes not HD). Take a look at Waverly Cinnabar, LA Berry Red6, LA Summer Pudding, LA Tile.

Hmm.. Warmer or lighter? Some of the colors listed look very similar to RT with a blue undertone but not as deep? I'll check today when I'm out!

Shee, I have the bosporous toile (billiard) in my breakfast room. I painted the walls a BM color called currant red. It seems to go well with warm and cool tones. I'm not sure if it would go with your floral, but here's some photos:

Oops. kmcg is right. It was Lowe's where I picked up the Waverly samples. Doing a bathroom reno does leave your brain muddled after awhile.

another vote for mr...i think it looks better with your shower curtain and fine with the trim.

There are times I really like the MR and other times it just looks orange. Has to be the lighting. Currant Red is in the deck and is very similar to MR.

I didn't get to Lowes yet but it's on the todo list.

I hope you find the right red. When I was looking at samples for our morning room, we put up 8 different samples on the wall. I also found the raspberry truffle too blue and bold, while the burnt peanut red was too pink. The currant red seems to be a great neutral and works great with muted fabrics. Whatever red you choose, your bathroom is going to be stunning when it's all done. It is well on its way!

Shee - I know you said you don't want beadboard (too cotagey). But, what about this? I love this. I think it would look great with the red above and it's very traditional to go with your fabrics. Not sure you and/or your DH is up for doing this, but while surfing today I came across this picture and thought of your bathroom and thought I'd pass it along.

My vote is for the MR, though I would also test out southernfrenchie's color.

I thought of the frame also Jill, but not sure there is enough wall space in Shee's bathroom. I don't think it would be a hard DIY job.

I was thinking maybe because there is not much wall space in the bathroom, it might be easier since not many boxes to build? Or maybe it just wouldn't look right? Would only be on that window wall and behind toilet, I think.

Here’s Currant Red. (Wasn’t a sample pot btw.) In comparison, it’s a little deeper. I’m not sure which I like more out of the two. Tonight I don’t see the orange in the MR. This may be a stupid question but once I get a color on the walls will those different colors/undertones I’m seeing go away so that I see RED?

Anyone change their opinion?

Btw, there’s three coats of paint on the CR. Almost 3ish on the MR - I ran out of the sample jar.

The CR does really look nice....more decisions..Ha! It has a richer look to it!

The CR is richer. It doesn't have the blue undertone like the Raspberry Truffle but to photograph them side by side isn't making my point well.

I still like the MR better, because besides being a warmer color that works with all the brown and gold tones, it has a lighter feel to it than the CR, which reads too dark red to me.

But in the end, either one will work if you like them. So just go for it, and enjoy the end result!

While I love the look of the panel moulding,I don't think your small amount of wall space is the right place for it. That should be a design feature, rather than something stuck on a short run of wall,and competing with a toilet.

Well i also like to go with red its looking good then others, very prominent and decent look.

We have panel in the bathroom and I love it. It has a dark stain and so easy to keep clean. I wallpapered above it.

I kind of like the Martha Stewart. The other's seem too orange.

You have to remember that everyone is seeing slightly different colors on their monitors, so no one can answer this question for you with reds so close in hue.

You are overthinking and will just have to pick one yourself and try it. Buy a gallon and do the whole wall around your window with several coats of the one you like the best as reds are tricky until you have a number of coats on. A sample on posterboard just can't be the final answer; you need a whole wall. If you don't like it, try your 2nd choice. But it is impossible to have anyone else make your selection off their computer and too many opinions obviously are confusing you.

They are all so close that ANY one of those reds will work. It really is a matter of what you like best. What's your gut telling you?

It is hard to tell the difference in the last two on my monitor. I'm trying to figure out which one is warmer, because that's the one I would go with. If one looks like it has more orange in it, then that's the one I would go with because I think it will look better with the browns.

Patty is right, none of us see it the same way. Only you and DH really know what it looks like :)

Using grey primer before the red paint will help you get to the end color faster. 3 coats instead of 4-5. Red can be a beast, hopefully you won't experience that! At least it's a small room, LOL

I always post a lot of photos because I like seeing photos in a thread. For me, the more the better.

Going to paint the bedroom first so I'll have plenty of time to look at the samples.

Wow, I do like the CR, but maybe too dark?

Please make sure you use a gray primer under the red. That's what I did on advice from guy at paint store and it really worked great. I only had to do 2 coats of paint to get the color.

Are you going to put up chair rail with red above? Or painting entire wall? If you did chair rail, you could always add the molding later if you want. I do think it gives the room a much richer appearance. In that pic I posted we can only see one wall and even if that's the only wall it's on, I think it makes a big difference in that bathroom.

Have you signed up as a designer on the BM web site? I did (I think it was funcolors that posted site to do it on) and you can get as many sample sheets of any BM color for free. They even send them for free. It has saved me so much money since I never buy samples anymore. I have ordered a LOT of samples at the same time (I order multiple sheets of the same color so I have a really large area). They come quickly too (not as quickly as buying sample pots, but quick enough to save the $$).

I would definately paint your bedroom first. What looks one way in the bath now, may look another once there is color on those bedroom walls.

I also recommend the gray primer, makes a difference when you are trying to paint red. When I painted our bedroom red, I painted vertical, then horizontal, then last coat vertical at the recommendation of the paint store guy. It helps so you don't see paint lines in dark colors; truth or not, it worked.

Have you looked at Caliente in the aura line? It looks very close to raspberry truffle, but is full spectrum. Also means that you will be able to get the walls from white to red with 2 coats.

Jill - Whoaaa, are you for real about the sample thing? I'm technically not a designer though so... I'll have to check it out!

I asked on the paint forum about BM paint (I want to use Regal in this room) and it was mentioned BM doesn't use gray but tints towards the color. Can I still request that it's done with gray? I really don't want to prime with pink.

I agree with Sandra. I didn't realize this is the master bath, so I'd definitely paint the bedroom first. Besides, you've been working like crazy picking out a bed and then the bedding. Aren't you ready for a payoff? :)

As I've said before, your bedroom will never look right, including the new bedding until you get some paint on the walls.

So why stop one project to start another? After you're finished with the bedroom is when you need to do the paint in the bath so you can be sure to get a good flow of the two rooms.

I like pictures also, but since this is paint and we all see the colors differently the pictures of samples tend to look the same except for the darker reds.

I really can't wait to see your unfinished bedroom though. Paint will make a world of difference!

Maybe if you do a chair rail (with or without the molding below), the CR would look good? Dark but only above chair rail.

I bought my MR at a BM store. It was the BM store guy that told me about the gray primer. I just went in and asked for the red paint. He asked what color are your walls now. I said white. He pulled out 2 boards from under the counter. Both painted red. One looked great. The other looked like crap! He asked which look I wanted. Duh! The good looking one. He said that one was 2 coats on top of gray primer. The other was some # larger than 2 coats on top of white. I bought the gray primer. I don't even think it was BM primer. I just bought what he told me to buy. He was so right. 2 coats and it was perfect. Later I read about how hard it is to get coverage with red paint. Use gray primer :-)

Shee - looking at your photos I agree that the CR may be too dark. I have it in what is for all practical purposes a sunroom. Your bathroom has one window, and I'm sure your blinds are down most of the time : ). Also, the bosporous toile is lighter than your fabric and provides a nice contrast with the CR. While I think both the CR and MR pull colors from your fabric, the CR seems to weigh it down. Of the two reds, you are probably better off with the MR.

FYI, we purchased our CR in the aura formula. My father-in-law painted the room without priming. It went on in 2 coats, and he said it was the best paint he'd ever used - and he's painted a ton of rooms in his lifetime! The quality of the aura is amazing. Our breakfast room is a high traffic area with 5 kids, and even though we've had the CR for a year it looks brand new. You can probably get the MR in the aura if you want to avoid priming.

I figured I would put my two cents in. First of all you can get any paint color mixed in BM Aura. I don't believe Aura is full spectrum as someone stated. Ellen Kennon makes full spectrum and a few others, but I don't believe Aura is. Full spectrum means it has no black in it. I happen to love red and painted my dining room in Raspberry Truffle. We do have white crown molding and white molding 1/2 way up the wall, which breaks up the red. I love it and I feared it would make the room look smaller. It actually did the opposite. My sister in law did her full walls in RT and it also looks great. However, I do like it better with the bottom molding. Whether red has blue in it or orange, it still will be a warm color, unless it leans to purple, which none of these colors do. I happen to like CR, but I can tell you, they all go very well with your fabric and you can't go wrong. My daughter just painted a small bedroom in BM Pomegranate, (which is even deeper than RT). The room looks great and she has white crown molding, which really brings out the red. My daughter just painted her very small, windowless bathroom in a really deep teal. She has classic white subway tile half way up in her bathroom walls. When I saw the sample I thought "way too dark". Once painted, I can't believe how beautiful it looks. Even my husband said he would never think such a deep color would look great. She has more guts than me. It taught me not to be afraid of deep colors. When painting red, use a grey primer. My BM paint store didn't listen to me and instead gave me a red primer. It pissed me off cause I still needed 3 coats with Aura. When using Aura, (if you do it yourself) don't brush over once you paint an area. I got freaked out cause the color pulled off. I had my husband paint it cause I was too nervous. It's very thick and dries very fast. I also found touch ups show more than regular BM paint. However, when using red, I would use Aura. Which ever color you choose, you will be happy. Don't overthink it cause you will just confuse yourself more. They are all great colors.

S'ree, take a look at this RL red. I liked it so much I used it in a powder room, fireplace accent wall in the LR, and the lower half portion of walls in the DR. It's a deep color, very much like the background color of your valance.

PS....I never met a red I didn't like! ;o)

ohmigosh I can so relate to what you are going through!!! Check this out:

I wanted some sort of deep-ish red, but I was also trying to blend with a touch of terra cotta in the countertop, so I needed a teeny bit orange, but I didn't want it to look orange at all. It was a killer paint choice.

I ended up making my own formula. I call it "Mayspan". It was 80% Mayflower Red and 20% Spanish Red. I'm happy with it still. It looks more orangey here but it isn't IRL.

From your choices, it looks like RT for you (MR for me).

I forget which one, but I remember there was one "red" that easily looked pink in certain lighting. Red's can be tricky. You might even want to try a sample on each wall to see for sure.

Oakley- These two room have been a combined effort the whole time even though I mainly talked about the bedroom. I'm excited to get them both done. Then I'll drive ya'll nuts with a nursey. ;)

Jill - Yeah, I saw at SW once they had red samples - one with gray primer and one not. The difference was pretty amazing!

Scanmike - I've heard how Aura is wonderful but I've also heard how fast it dries. I've used BM's Regal before and liked it so I was going to try it again.

From the blog, I think part of the reason that works (to my eyes) is her cabinets are white. I'll have to dig around and see if I can find photos of something closer to what I have.

Wendy - Looks good! I like the red with your vanity very much. I've been moving the samples around the room quite a bit.

I'd love to tear out the vanity more than replace the floor but neither are practical at this point or anytime in the future as they function fine. C'mon rugs!

During the day I like MR better but at night it reads red/orange and brighter. CR looks deeper and almost brown during the day sometimes but at night it looks perfect.

HA! I sent you the pictures of the pretty part of the room. We have an old table with a vinyl tablecloth and mismatched chairs in the middle of the room. Plus, I only have 3 window panels up - and have 5 more to go. But if you want to see the paint with the windows, I can probably post a photo later today.

Don't worry, you'll find the right color. It's better to keep looking and find the right one instead of "settling".

I finally went to Lowes yesterday and grabbed paint cards of:
LA Russet 6
LA Summer Pudding
Waverly Tomato Red
Waverly Cinnabar
Eddie Bauer Crimson
Glidden Terra Cotta Rose.

I grabbed a few actual samples from comparing my BM paint cards and going by what I knew of the colors. Ha, when I got home I realized I grabbed such similar colors it's not even funny.

Waverly Tomato Red looks like BM Burnt Peanut Red and similar to Raspberry Truffle.

Glidden Terra Cotta Rose looks like the color name and is similar to BM Tucson Red. The color would work but it's not how I'm picturing the room.

LA Russet 6 is a nice color. Similar to Currant Red.

The other names above, the cards look very similar to ones I already have. I'm finally at my point of walking away for now. In the end I'll probably end up going with MR or CR.

Shee - what does your gut tell you? I agonized for a week or 2 over 8 different shades of red for my morning room, and finally settled on the first shade I put up.

I am having a hard time seeing the russet. Both the MR and the CR pick up different reds in your fabric. I feel like the MR sets your fabric off better, but only on my monitor. How do the reds hold up against the other elements in your bedroom?

My gut? I don't know which is why I'll have to stop thinking about it for a few days and see what I come up with, lol. My first instinct was RT but it's not the favorite here so I'm looking at all the feedback and trying to sort it out which will work best for me.

The Raspberry Truffle matches best with my coverlet and bedding hands down. I love MR in Jill's room but am seeing that dang orange at times (in my bathroom mainly from the lights. Also since the RT looks best actually in my room, I'm wondering how odd it's going to look to see a different tone of red in the bathroom, you know? Hopefully once the bedroom is painted (SW Dromedary Camel) and looks more finished this will be easier for me.

Shee, don't decorate on what color we do or do not like!

If RT is what you like then go for it because I'm sure the end product will make the whole room gorgeous!

And you have to remember, we don't all see the same color on our monitor that you see in real life with the RT.
