Kitchen Sink Size

My cabinets just got installed and I am surprised at how big my sink is. My sink is the Kohler Vault 36" smart divide apron front sink. I ordered the 36 over the 33 without seeing the sink. Now I am looking at the size thinking did I go a little sink crazy with the size. I know the whole is 3" wider than needed. I looked at my sink in the box now that is here and it looks huge but beautiful. How big is your sink?

I have a 32" Vigo single bowl undermount in stainless steel (still in the box, haven't installed it yet), and coming from a double bowl sink, even that looks big to me. 30" would have been fine, even 28" or so would still probably feel a lot bigger than what I had.

Ours is a 30" single bowl under mount.
But if I had my 'druthers, and the space, I'd recess a bathtub into my countertop.
    I wish I had room for a 36.

I agree with willtv. I have a 30 inch single bowl, and as far as I am concerned, you cannot have too much sink! It will be great, don't worry.

I've got the 36" Oliveri 70/30 split sink and love it. I really liked the Kohler one you got, but DH vetoed it--he didn't understand the need for the smart-divide (just like he didn't see the need for a garbage disposal). Anyway, my advice is to stop second-guessing over it & revel in the fact that you not only have the space for a sink that size, but also in the many different ways you can use it & how it will make life easier!

I have a 36" and it looked like a bathtub when the box arrived! Once it got installed down into the counter it seemed to shrink a ton. I love the size of it and it has so much functionality I would never give it up. Hang in there - I think you will love it!!

Thanks for the replies. I was worried it would look like a boat installed. I will think of the positive instead of 'oh my what did order'.

We'll be installing the same sink in a couple of months! Is it really that big? Would love to see pics...
Can't wait to be rid of my traditional double bowl, even though it's a good size.

    Enjoy!

Sunny, I think you're going to love your sink. I'm mid-kitchen remodel, and one of the things I already regret is not clarifying with my contractor exactly how large of a sink I could fit (retrofitting some cabinets, so I have some limitations).

I got a 30" apron front, and would absolutely have gone 36" if I had it to do over again. Your sink will be a workhorse, the bigger the better, I think. Enjoy!!

I have a 36" copper apron smarter sink. It is just like the one in the video on the page I linked. I got a walnut cutting board and a copper grid with it. OMG it is wonderful. All my meal prep is now done inside the sink instead of along side the sink. No more messy countertops. It was pricy, but the end result is amazing. Everyone wants to "try out" our sink. It has become the talk of the neighborhood. It has been a lifestyle changer for us. I have sent the video to all of my family and now they all want one.

those folks needing to maximize counter runs in small kitchens can do quite nicely however with smaller deeper single sinks these days. With efficient dishwashers that can clean pots and handle good sized loads, the accumulation in and around sinks is now a bygone thing.
Yes,the biggest sink that works into one's plan should be the option, but for some, a [27 or 30] in sink base is the option-it can work nicely and allow the important gain in counters.

I custom ordered a 36" single bowl undermount kitchen sink and when it arrived I freaked out too. I was worried that it looked too monstrous and I was worried that my husband would be angry with me for ordering it (it was one of very few items that I ordered without him seeing it). Well, he saw it and raved about it, so I was relieved by that before it was even installed. I've been using it for 6 months now and I'm so thrilled with it. I can put huge platters and cutting boards in there and no one can see them. My daughter's entire highchair tray fits in there easily so I can wash the entire thing. When I have parties, I just load the sink and worry about washing and putting them in the dishwasher for later. I enjoy the company of my guests without feeling like I have to wash the dishes because all of my counters are piled high with dirty dishes. I can go on and on. No question, it looks big -- especially when you're not accustomed to it. But the advantages of it will soon make you think "How did I live without a bigger sink for all these years?"
Hope you enjoy the benefits of your 3 footer as much I enjoy mine!
