julien sink question

Hi,

We're wanting a stainless steel single bowl sink with a corner drain. We've found three so far that are big enough for us: Franke (GNX 110-28), Elkay (LWR2522), and Julien (3835 or 3485). Of these the Julien 3835 is far and away our preferred sink. But, we're worried that it is too deep (10"). When undermounted, the bottom will be 11.5-12 inches below the counter top.

We asked our fixture place about getting a quote for a Julien a la Cart (custom). We were thinking the 3835 but with a 7" depth. Apparently, we have to pay $100 to get a Julien price quote. If purchased, the $100 goes towards the sink. Otherwise it is lost. Has anyone received an a la cart quote from Julien and do you have any experience on how that price relates to the standard Julien prices?

$100 for them to tell you a price? That's ridiculous. It's there way of making you purchase from them. I would never pay it.

Just to clarify, it doesn't cost anything to get a price on a standard Julien sink. It only costs $100 if you want a custom sink. I can imagine that developing an accurate quote may require developing a design for the sink. This could be time consuming and Julien may have many legitimate reasons for setting this $100 price.

Given that the sink I want requires less materials, it wasn't immediately clear to me if my custom sink would cost more than a stock sink. I was hoping someone out there knew. I just don't want to spend $100 to find out that the custom sink is 1.5 or 2 times more expensive than the stock sink.

I just bought the classic 3485 but was also concerned about the depth. I did get a custom quote for that sink with an 8" depth (no charge for the quote) but decided to go with the stock item. Sorry, I can't for the life of me remember the price for the custom sink but I did not pay a dime for the quote.

You can contact Julien directly for a quote. I am considering a custom Julien sink and the quote was free through my local plumbing supply store. The price of the custom sink was about $300 more than the regular sink. I wanted a 39" wide by 21" front to back depth 10" deep sink!

We have a Julien sink with a drain in the upper left corner. It's 36" wide, 9" deep on the right side, 10" deep on the left. We ordered the grids, which reduce the depth by about an inch, and love them and the sink. I think the depth is perfect. Our countertop is stainless steel with the sink welded to it, so it looks totally integrated.

You guys are awesome. I'll contact Julien directly and see if I can get a quote without paying the $100. That is a cool integrated countertop, gizmonike. I doubt my DW would go for that, plus I think I've convinced her to let me try to make the counter out of concrete :)

Ask for Nicole in cust svce. She was very helpful with an initial problem we'd had with our sink (which ended up resolving itself on its own).

BTW, ours isn't custom, but we love our sink and are considering using Julien SS sinks in our baths as well.

I am trying to find GIZMONIKE. I am trying to decide between a Franke 18 guage and a Julien sink 16 guage. Julien sinks are relatively new in the US, so there is not that much informtion about them and not that many showrooms carry them. Do they clean well, I mean the sink itself of spots and smudges. What do you have to do to clean them? Do they drain well? Are they worth the price difference?
