What is a 'cool' kitchen gadget?

My DH said the other day he wanted to have some cool kitchen gadgets/electronics in our new remodel. I would love to surprise him with something but don't know what's out there. I kind of think it's silly to have a TV in the refrigerator - but along those lines, what's out there? Thanks!

    Tapmaster?

On the HGTV Top 10 Kitchens, there was a built in pasta boiler next to the sink. I thought it was cool but I try not to eat THAT much pasta. I have never seen anything like it so I don't know where you could even find such a thing. Or how about onyx backsplashes or countertops lit from below with LEDS. That was on there too.

Other things you will only find on gardenweb: Tapmaster, Never MT, Mockett pop up outlets, plugmold. I am sure you will get more suggestions.

Pressure latch trash cabinet (i.e., hip bump). Peg board pullouts. Undercabinet lighting (or is that too common to be cool?). Pot lid rack. Knife magnet or in counter knife holder. Built in drainer attached to waste water system.

    Gaggenau combi steam :)

We have a Miele built in deep fat fryer; It is wonderful and believe it or not due to frying things as the right temp in a really great appliance there is not any extra fat on the food. And yes the Miele people make the other built ins too but we really love the fryer. c

We had a fold down tv once which was nice to have. It was placed under the cabinet and folded-up when not in use. Had a radio and clock to if I remember right.

    Advantium
    Gaggenau Combi-steam oven
    Batch garbage disposal
Induction cooktop (single or multiple burner)
Magnet strip in drawer for knives
Pullout with "box" under sink instead of cabinet
    Pullout or pulldown faucet
    Prep sink
    Plugmold
Pullout for trash & recycling bins

cleo_2007 the pasta cooker is made by Kohler and usually has a sink next to it. Pro Cookcenter. I'm not sure of all the varieties but being that it is Kohler it won't be cheap but kind of a neat idea since it drains itself too.

    air switches

How about a built in espresso machine?...he can bring you a cup in the morning while you're still in bed! If he's a health nut, a breville juicer would really be nice. Those are a couple of items I would love to have.

If you both really like to cook a 48" pro range and some great cookbooks. GE Monogram has grates that you flip so a wok will fit perfectly. I love the idea of the Kohler Pro center, saw one in person, really nice but did take up quite a bit of space.

    • Heated countertop

    • Heated floor (if tile)

    • Trash Foot pedal

    • Chandelier in pantry :-)

    • Tapmaster

    • NeverMT

    • Cutlery Carryall (if you can get it)

    • Filler pullouts--no more wasted space!

    • Hanging stemware (upside down) on a pullout shelf (could be stored over refrigerator)

    • Soft close drawers & cabinet doors (guys seem to really like these)

    • Charging Station (actual station, not just phones sitting on counter plugged in...see Pottery Barn for example)

    • TV stored in cabinet over refrigerator or elsewhere on a pullout & swivel shelf

    • Speakers in ceiling in Kitchen & DR that are separately controlled (volume & content)

    • Wrap-around pullout shelves under sink (wrap around plumbing & sink)

    • Combo TV/Computer station w/waterproof keyboard

    • Soft close toilet seat cover..OK, not kitchen, but powder room!

I love that knife holder! I saw this one awhile back. No, I don't have an ex, but it just was a talking piece.

We have several "cool things" in our dream kitchrn, but the one our family/friends/guests comment on the most and just have to demonstrate to everyone is our Tapmaster. We got the model with both the footpedal and knee control.

This is the one thing my husband and I use the most often and really enjoy. Our BlueStar is next but un a different price category.

Ever heard of a Kapoosh knife holder? Definitely a "cool" gadget and extremely functional. No restraints of slots for specific sized knives - it holds any combination of knife sizes that fit anywhere inside it. I wash my knives without drying and put them in the Kapoosh wet. Mine comes in the oblong stainless trim but they're also made in a wooden block form.

Dish drawer dw and tv on pull out arm in the cabinet above the fridge. The gadget I wish we had is a vac pan.

Not a gadget, but great organization seems to be what makes our kitchen very functional and seems to really "wow" guests (includes pots and pans drawers, tray dividers, and drawers dedicated to pyrex dishes so that they can be stacked by separate sizes rather than nested + separate drawer for lids.)

I think that our microwave drawer is a cool and practical, too. We also have underfloor radiant heat and they're so nice, especially in Winter. Here's a pic of our new MW drawer that was taken while they were still finishing up our new kitchen, so please excuse the messy floor and lack of baseboards.

I love the new can openers that are handheld and you don't have to crank. I don't have one, yet, but plan on one as soon as I can get out of the house. (DD had hip surgery and is non-weight bearing.) I especially love it because it can be tossed in a drawer and doesn't have to sit on the countertop

Don't own it, but I've been eyeballing this knife block as a cool addition. A cross between a typical wood block and magnetic holder that isn't knife/slot specific:

Fuzzy logic rice cooker. Not much of a "wow" factor actually, certainly not as glamorous as a tv built into the fridge, but it's a pretty cool and sophisticated gadget.

May not be very glamorous, but my favorite recent gadget is a champagne bottle opener. It pops the cork easily (sometimes those bottles are really hard to open) and prevents the cork from flying out of control. A friend of mine found them in the Christmas Tree shop for $2 apiece. CT Shop is a local phenomenon here in New England.

A little off topic, but the KAPOOSH video is hilarious!
