Will this fabric work?

I need curtains for the french door in my family room. There are windows on either side, making the total width 180". That's a whole lotta fabric.

I can't use sheers - even though privacy isn't a concern, we do need to be able to somewhat block out the sun because in the afternoon it shines in our eyes.

Here are my inspiration rooms. I need to buy all new furniture, so I'm not concerned about the curtains matching anything just yet. I'm going for a silvery-blue, glamorous/sophisticated look - a mix of traditional and modern. The walls are a cream-colored painted paneling with built-in bookshelves.

I was originally thinking about a silver and light blue damask fabric for the curtains, but I found a super duper deal on this fabric. It's a linen/cotton blend.

It's not what I had in mind, but $2 a yard will be a LOT cheaper than the $10-$20 a yard I've found (and even $10-$20 seems on the low end of normal). Can I make it work? Is the plain linen too informal?
