Paint color mistake - help!

I just had 70% of my house professionally painted and am not happy with the bedroom (thankfully everything else including my living room, foyer, and upstairs hall is great). After months of agonizing over paint color choices (and observing colors on the walls in all kinds of light, etc) I still made a mistake. :(

I selected Benjamin Moore's Handmade AF-325 for a bedroom and I just do not like it. It is neither calm nor soothing. My husband said it reminds him of drinking Orange Julius as a kid so he likes it. :) Anyway, I was trying to find a beige that would work well with a red vintage toile pillow and a red, beige and white throw that I have.

The color Handmade is definitely quite peachy-gold and clashes with the pillow and throw. On the upside, I have a white satin duvet and other than the toile pillow and throw I had virtually nothing else I absolutely had to use in this room.

So, having resigned myself to the fact that I cannot use the pillow and throw, can you help me find coordinating colors? I am not going to re-paint this room now and so must find some accessories to make it work.

I was hoping that all of you decorating gurus here could look at your online resources and/or Benjamin Moore fandecks (I have the affinity colors and classics decks) and brainstorm some color ideas for me. Again, I'm not painting walls, just looking for color ideas for coordinating pillows, blankets, art, etc.

Thank you! :)

    Wow thats...peach yogurt.

The good thing about peach tones is that the are very complementary to a lot of skin tones. What does your furniture look like? Your floors?

Can you post some pictures? That would help us help you.

    Here are some pictures!

The color is a bit brigther than the photo suggests and it is a cloudy day today. I've included in the picture an Ethan Allen dresser (a deal my in-laws picked up at an auction as a gift for us)that I have in this room. I think I like it and have been looking at new hardware for it. I do not yet have a headboard for the queen bed and right now just have the white satin duvet with matching white shams. I don't have a bedskirt yet.

I do have a nightstand and another dresser that are a similar shade as the dresser pictured here. (One picture shows trim missing, we're replacing this piece and that will install this evening.)

I think that the picture makes the carpet look darker than it is, it is a basic medium beige, cheap carpet (left from previous owners). I have white wood blinds for the window.

I'm still developing my "design style" but I have a cape cod home built in 2002 in a rural valley outside of a medium-sized city with a chic side. While I appreciate the style, I want to stay away from the Americana country look at this point. I like my antiques but also like the idea of using fabrics with a more modern twist. Maybe it's "modern country" I'm looking for, as I said, still defining. :)

    Your thought are appreciated!

Something about orange....it is hard to fight with...one approach is to surrender and accept that you have an "orange" bedroom. Just run with it.

You could stick with neutrals, warm whites and off-whites, for the bedding and add accents in blue and orange, to the extent you can tolerate them. I am talking about knocked back oranges and grayed down blues.

What kind of exposure does the room get? The brighter the natural light, the more toned-down you may want the colors to be. But, that depends on your personal taste for strong color.

I like Wedgewood Gray and Woodlawn Blue with the Handmade. Would pick up little bits of Orange Ice along the way. I am assuming you are not afraid of color since you were originally working with red.

Another path would be to use an analogous color scheme, bringing in brown, terra cotta, etc. Look at Potter's Clay. Or go with a warmer red that leans toward orange, almost a deep coral like Spiced Pumpkin. Again a surrender tactic. :)

Gotta run to the dentist now....would much rather play with paint! Good luck!

I'm just skimming cause I'm on my way out the door, but just looked at the pics quick and I would do something not at all beige. I'm thinking ben moore's raindance. I think it would go great with the red toile and show off your furniture too.

I have experience with Ethan Allen pieces like that.

What I'm afraid you'll run into, when you try to change the hardware out, is finding the finish behind it quite worn. You won't be able to find much that would both cover the area and change the style.

As for colors, I'm on board with a drabbed out blue.

I find the color rather warm and I think it looks nice with the chest-on-chest. I would not change out the hardware. Batwing bail pulls are what belong on pieces like that. Sorry if that sounds like a "rule" but certain things are meant for each other.

Thanks for your suggestions! The color is better on cloudy days for sure and it is growing on me. I like all of your ideas and am so grateful for the inspiration. It helps me realize that my poor choice is not the end of the world! It give me more opportunity to hone my style, right?

Oh, and I won't touch the dresser. Thanks for the tips. :)

I know what you said, but if it were me, I'd spend the $40 or whatever for a new gallon of paint, roll up my sleeves, put down some drop cloths (or rags) and paint it myself before DH got home from work. :o)

I just wanted to thank everyone for your help. I'm getting used to the color and it's kind of attractive in natural light. I've purchased some pillows with bright and dark blue and little dark orange from Pier 1 and found a retro picture with the same colors. I've decided to just run with it and am enjoying the challenge of finding inexpensive accents in case I want to completely change the room soon. I'll post some pictures when I'm done.

Thanks for helping me realize that there was some hope! :)

Happy ending! Or at least another step on the path. :-)

    Will look forward to pics.

    Good news!

Sometimes it takes a while for a color to look correct. When a room is first painted, and you have no complementary colors working with it, it can be kind of a shock.

It does work with your dresser and accessories will seal the deal.
