Yes! Every comforter we've bought in the last ten years or so has been crunchy and crackly sounding except for just one that we got at Costco a few years ago. I don't know why that one was different.

We have gotten used to it. The fabric does get softer-sounding after you've used the comforter for a while.

I have a down-free one from Company Store and I know what you are referring to. It's something with the down-free material. It does not crinkle as much after a short while. It's still a fantastic comforter. I have these on every bed in the house. :)

Our noisy comforters are down-full ones. The noise is in the crunchy fabric used for the covers.

The cover fabric of your down comforter is probably a high quality cotton. After you get it dry cleaned once, the crackle with disappear (the "polished" finish on the fabric becomes less polished is the best way I can describe it).

Our pure down-filled blanket (from Costco) did the same thing. That crackle is annoying at first, then you get used to it. But it's REALLY nice and quiet after dry-cleaning. Big bucks to dry clean, but SOoooooo worth it. Don't wash it even though it may say you can!

While visiting family and traveling, I've slept under 3 down comforters (1 was down-alternative) recently and none of them had this crunchy sound. I think I'm just bummed that this could happen with a high quality product.

I was in a store recently considering a (Scandia) down pillow but the crunching drove me nuts. The salesperson immediately put it in a soft pillow case and reduced the crunch by 90%. I don't know if a soft duvet cover will help, but it might.

YES, what the heck is it. On mine it sounds like it is in-between the two outside fabrics and only where the stiches are sewn. I think it might be reinforcement. ??? But I hate the noise it makes. I will try washing it later but it's still new and clean.

I can't stop laughing. I thought it was only mine. Yes, our comforter makes noise too. I also bought it from the Company Store. It sounds almost paper like. Other than that it is a great comforter!!!!

We don't ski but for fun we stayed in a ski resort in Park City last year, the snow was gone but we enjoyed the stay. The down comforter on the bed was soft (and quiet!).

As for this one, I don't think I can get used the noise. In all my shopping for comforters I never thought to take this into consideration...go figure.

Get it dry cleaned. It will reduce the sound. So will time, but dry cleaning will do it right away. It *IS* a high quality comforter - there is nothing comparable out there for those of us that need down-alternative.

Our 3 comforters are from Cuddledown. None of them make any noise.

I've always equated the noisiness with quality, tightly woven cotton; new fabric has a sizing on it, sort of a coating from the mill, that is probably what wears away with washing or dry cleaning, hence reducing the "noise".......

We bought Ralph Lauren sheets, they’re 100% cotton, white with a tiny honey bee, flower & skep pattern. There was no thread count on the package, but they felt like sheets used to feel & not the sateen cotton that tends to stretch all over the mattress. Unfortunately, these sheets are SO noisy, I feel like I’m trying to sleep in a huge paper bag! I’ve washed them over & over again. I’ve used vinegar several times, usually dry them on the clothes line & dried them in the dryer a few times. I never use fabric softener or dryer sheets. I haven’t tried baking soda, but will do that next. I won’t send them to the cleaners for more chemicals added. I’d like to know what makes them so noisy & what to do. My husband hung them on the line this morning & said, “I see you added fabric STIFFENER to these sheets.” UGH! Help!!!

Did you try ironing them? Sometimes that makes them softer.

Many down comforters and down pillows use a type of woven fabric called cambric cotton. Cambric references the weaving style, in this case, a plain weave. Cambric cotton is typically the most down proof when compared to cotton sateen, damask, or jacquard.
