Privacy for a slider

I am moving into a condo with a 94" slider. Hunter Douglas makes a vertical stacking (to 7" when closed) cellular shade. However, it costs about $1000 and I don't want to spend that much.

I know vertical blinds are out, everytime I look at an HGTV redo, they come down and everyone seems to laugh.

What can I do for privacy?

The vertical blinds do come in some interesting fabrics and do stack off the door, but they do flap.

Any ideas?

One more thing, if I put up light curtains that I can pull, they will have partially cover the door, since there won't be much room on the left side.

Right now we have hung sheer panels (from Ikea) in ours for daytime privacy, with velvet drapes for nighttime. The drapes only extend a few inches past the door frame when opened.

The sheer panels let tons of light in but obscure the view from outside during the day.

WE're switching to a double-curtain-rod setup with sheers on the inner rod and the same velvet drapes on the outer.

You might also want to consider applying privacy film to the glass. it will kill your view, but still let in a ton of light. And people wont be able to see in..... I just used it on a glass-paneled bathroom door and it looks very good! I used the plain "etched glass" style, but they have fancier patterns if you like.

At my last house I made warm windows. They have magnets inside the edges of the roman shades that stick to the wall magnets. When open they look like stacked pleated fabric above the slider. When closed they display the pattern of your fabric. We really liked them! :0)

If you have enough wall space on the stationary side of the slider (or French door), you can have your drapes stack only on that side, with sheers on a different rod if you want sheers. That's what I have in my bedroom.

Make a fake shoji out of rice paper and wood strips.

I don't think you should rule out verticals based on what you see on HGTV. I'm also aware of how many on the forum dislike them but IMO verticals have their use in certain rooms. In my FR I have fabric verticals and they're perfect for the area. They open fully, stay out of the way, give a feel of openness in the room and in the summer I can adjust just how much light I want to let in.
If you ever decide to buy any, I suggest the low profile head rail, and if you want a 'valance' use a wood cornice.

On my other slider, in the MBR, I have drapes that stack on the stationary side.

What you use depends on the overall style of the room.

I used a patio panel from JCPenney and a long rod. It seems to work out pretty well, and I think it looks decent.

If you like the vertical cellular then I would just try a different brand other than Hunter Douglas which is quite pricey. For that size slider I found them for under $500.00 at Blinds.com I listed a link below , its for the light filtering but they also have room darkening.

I am updating my original message with a try at posting a picture of the slider. The LR / DR is 38' long and that is the only window.
On a positive note, I am seeing all my choices come together and I like it.
This was an 1100 sq. ft. condo that was a mess, but I was able to buy cheaply enough to do some work.

I would try curtains on either sides and sheers in the middle. Worked for me and looked fab. If you want something simpler... check out Ikea. They have many types of stystems that look fabulous!
