Cat on Railing Inside the House

We have a second floor that is open to the first floor below with a railing going across. Our new cat is jumping on the railing and scaring us to death. We are afraid he will fall to the floor below. How can we stop this. I have been searching the internet and everyone is talking about outside balconies. But this is the inside of our house. Do I ban the cat from the second floor - and how??? Do I put up really tall plexiglass? Surely someone else has had this problem.

That's a great product but I'd be worried your cat may try to maneuver around it and end up on the other side.

Only thing I can think of is to attach a strip of plexiglass along the hall side of the railing but again, it depends on how determined your pet is to get up there.

Probably the best option is the product in the link below. Once she learns to stay off it could be removed.

Coyote Rollers. They can be installed on top of the railing and they say they work for cats, too.

What an awesome idea; I've never seen this product before. It looks like a great way to prevent kitty from getting on the railings.

Has anyone used these rollers for an outdoor cat enclosure?

Can you position a spray can in the area to zap him before he jumps up?

My daughter's cat loves the second floor railing, too. He can sit up there and observe the "common people" from the high vantage point. Kitty has never fallen off, even when the malamute puppy chases after him.

Devil cat, as he is also affectionately called, will lay along the railing switching his tail looking like he is going to fly down and land on our heads. Luckily, he hasn't done that either. :)

My cat has jumped from the LR soffit (about 12 feet up) onto a tile floor with no damage to the cat.

I wouldn't worry about it.

we have the same issue and our kitties all like to climb and walk on the railing. Our last cat scaled the railing one day and fell to the bottom floor (about 20 feet or more) . We freaked out, but she was fine. We have stopped trying to keep them off of it. They like it so much and there doesn't seem to be a good way to keep them off,.
