Best place to buy door hardware (knobs, hinges)

We're getting ready to put the interior doors on our Hurricane Sandy wrecked house. Where's the best place to buy new door hardware (just regular hardware, nothing special)?
Thanks in advance.

There's the regular places like Home Depot, but large lumber yards have them too.

I've found the best selection and prices online. We have used build.com recently and had good service and great prices. This is a link to their door knobs. (no affiliation...)

I thought Homesurplus in NJ was pretty good. I didn't get wrecked by Sandy thankfully, but am doing a home reno. Handles were between $16 and $22.

They have a few locations or you can have it delivered. I got 4 prehung pine doors, two bathroom vanities with granite/marble tops including back and sidesplashes, sinks, door hardware, and I think a few other things for about $1600.

The only thing I was displeased with is that the doors did not take stain evenly in certain areas. It looked like some kind of oil had been flecked onto them. Sanding those areas down and restaining them fixed it, though.

I just got some really nice knobs on Amazon for under just a bit over $1/each! With Amazon's easy returns I thought if they didn't look good I can easily return. Well, they look far better than the photo, and very good quality IMO.

I'll upload some pics this weekend...

Edited after I realized I just have kitchens on the brain and you asked about doors - not cabinet doors! Well I do still recommend checking Amazon, the reviews are helpful.

I ordered my emtek knobs from Simpson hardware. They had the best prices and were very helpful.

    hi seaswirl,

yay for your progress and being ready to deal with the interior after such an event. Because you said "just regular hardware, nothing special" I recommend you go to your local hardware or home store. They would appreciate you coming back to them and I just bet they have what you need and a fair price, too.

I'm late to the party on this one, but do check Overstock.com. They sell several patterns in bulk, and look very nice. Stone Mill is one of their brands. I am strongly considering buying from them. It will save me about $300 over my "dream" hardware.

I got ours on overstock and they are better than promised. Spam is a sad thing, but expected. We need to learn to ignore.

Personally, I'm glad it's not ignored, as new people might think its ok, and its not.

BTW, just remembered the problem I was trying to point out above, with solid brass kick plates on metal (Steel?) doors; it's a galvanic incompatibility that sets up galvanic corrosion. Can't remember for certain, but believe the door suffers the corrosive effect, and so warrantees on certain metal doors may not cover solid brass kick plate damage.

If there is a Habitat for Humanity in your area, it's a possibility much hardware may have been salvaged. To use and recycle such hardware may not be a pleasant reminder of the tragedy, but with all your other expenses, prices will be very cost affective.

God bless you as you continue to try and get back to a normal life.
