hello everyone!

I found a new forum! I am a frequent on orchid/florida gardening/hot topics

Thought I would say HI!

I am a TNR enthusiast - have done about 200 cats in one year. I am fostering kittens we find while doing TNR....over a 100 fostered and adopted through Humane Society of Tampabay and St Francis Cat rescue.

I volunteer at SpayNeuter clinics, and do basis vet tech stuff. I also recover feral cats a lot, and treat them from simple things such as scabies, abscesses, URI, etc

Lots of interesting stories to share, and still more to learn :)

Hi Olya....I found this forum too recently...been on GW for quite awhile but only came here about a month or two ago. Nice to see a familiar name though :-)

I agree, Its far better to fix ferals and let them live out in the wild neutered/spayed then it is to shoot them or put them to sleep in a shelter .

Ferals rarely reach double digits in nature so once you remove the ability to reproduce it gets better rather rapidly. The damages they do to most urban wildlife is petty low consittering how rapidly the prey reproduces.
Better for the environment and for the safety of our indoor pets IMHO they get eaten by fox/coyote,wolf or birds of prey,or if lucky, die and rot, then injected with toxens (PTS drug) and then ground up as Meat meal for pet food.- This CAN happen, not always but can..( see- you tube What's REALLY in your pets FOOD?- if you don't believe it)

    Welcome to the forums Olyagrove,

    Thank you for the welcomes!
Yes, pet food for my cats - I have 10 - is a big concern to me. One of my kitties recently blocked, and now I am reading up on food, trying different stuff and paying a lot more for it - but it is worth it!

Thank you, I thought that might be it. I have TNR barn cat. Got her from a local resuce that took her out of a colony of 50+ cats, fixed her, gave her her shots, and she's been my barn cat for over 2 years. She's a long-haired tortie, and looks like a raccoon in the winter when her hair gets really long. Definitely feral ...

Cool. Yep I say if cats are like that just fix um and let um live out there lives in peace,

Cats are already quite close to the wild, even a house cat still has most of their wild instincts, the cat is the one animal, man has never truly tamed..

I've got one whose close to feral in how he sometimes acts towards strangers roughing him up (like holding and petting) and esspecially strange cats. Me I can get away with it, if you read the signs. I think it has to do with the fact he was outdoor/indoors, I had him walk freely throughout the neighborhood,on leash, and that his mother was stray, he was given away too young (8 weeks instead of 12) and that he was the aggressive one of the bunch.

We had a pca who got a mild bite wound on his hand from petting him too much( kept it private from boss). Moms cat got a massive head absess from him too. He's up to date on Rabies and is neutered but he isn't a very nice cat sometimes, other times he's great.

Innova Evo, is a really good food, BTW ( for the poster who stated food research).

    Hi Olya,
Good to meet you. I am a dog person (3 at home) but I can appreciate a good cat when I visit one. Welcome to our world of pets! Great work you are doing.

Hi and welcome! I've done some TNR work too, mostly while in vet school, with Operation Catnip here in Raleigh. I think those are much needed services and wish more were around. My husband is allergic to cats, but I am lucky to be able to get my "kitty fix" at work. Glad you found us!
